Hello,
Im curious what hobbies or interests you have. The reason is some of the description for ISTJ seems way off to me. I mean I like art and stuff. Hate accounting.

OK. I have had weird hobbies.
I like wood working, made a few guitars/play guitar. Drawing, 3d modeling, animation, rock collecting/ lapidary, and I love camping but only if its waaaay out in the middle of nowhere.
I dislike accounting and sports.
Does this contradict the basic ISTJ personality?

I like music, but I don't like listening to it. [Is that weird?] I like playing it for myself, really. I like reading and studying and drawing. From your hobbies, it sounds like you've got a much larger action streak than me, but everyone's different, right? :) But I also hate sports, so you're not that different after all, maybe?

That is a little weird you don't like music, I don't know anyone that doesn't like music, it feeds the soul. But that's cool you like to make
your own music, how do you find inspiration?

Sports I don't care for myself, maybe that's a IS, thing.

Piano, skateboarding, and in general and overall, learning. I also enjoy reading but only when it's to my convenience and benefit, or is something I find really interesting (e.g chemistry). Other than that, it's living to improve myself and others in every way I can, but that's not a hobby. Additionally, however, I do really enjoy taking the time to figure complex things such as the upper-level chem stuff, puzzles or logic games, skateboarding tricks or piano- out and drawing concept maps often to connect the ideas.

I am a knit-wit. This includes all kinds of needlework--knitting, crocheting, sewing, needlepoint, embroidery, etc.

I enjoy music. I play the keyboard, but not well, and I sing. My taste usually runs to the sedate, mellow stuff nobody else seems to enjoy. That's OK, because a lot of times I pay less for my music because it's in the discount bin.

I also enjoy online quizzes, introspective psychology (what makes me tick) and word games.

I "paint" electronically using graphics software, but by hand my drawing and painting skills are quite weak. I'm better at composing simple cartoonish pictures, and not so good at realistic detail. I use home architecture software to design houses, probably a grown-up form of Legos or doll houses. Also, I have a game called Fashion Solitaire which is basically an electronic form of playing Barbie dolls.

I am not one for watching sports, with the exception of gymnastics, figure skating, and other artistic forms, and I do get into the Olympics. On TV I prefer game shows, comedy, and design shows on HGTV (but not the real estate shows.) I love watching Animal Planet, and also get into some dramas such as Law and Order. I *despise* soap operas and talk shows.

More than anyone wanted to know about me?

It looks like this is an old thread! It is interesting learning more about ISTJs & what they like to do. It is cool you like to write poetry & write in your journal. To listen to music to understand the lyrics and understand how people tick. I like listening to music and poetry too and I think it is fascinating learning about people & personality types
I am INFP & am surprised by how much the hobbies of me & other INFPs are similar to quite a few of the hobbies on the list of ISTJ interests & hobbies
A few hobbies are a bit different, which is interesting to learn about too!! New horizons

My hobbies are not quite what ISTJ profile suggests, either.

I...:

+ Read (scifi/fantasy, mostly)
+ Write (fantasy or alternate universe or character studies, mostly)
+ Digitally draw (I'm terrible! But I've improved since I started a few years back...)
+ Text-based Roleplay
+ Study Sherlock Holmes. Specifically, his maybe-maybe not 'relationship' with Watson. As well as the similarities and differences between Holmes and his fellow British legend James Bond.
+ Study...personality types. And Birth Order. And...well. Anything that is remotely interesting. I am fascinated by what makes people how they are.

ISTJ hobbies/interests/activites?

Hey what kinds of hobbies are my fellow ISTJs into??? What is your favorite activity to do??

I was a swimmer all through high school and now I train for triathlons, I enjoy anything active- all sports! I also recently started surfing.. what do you like to do in your free time??

Because of my wacky work schedule, my free time isn't "set" (in other words, I don't have every weekend off, because my schedule rotates due to the 12-hour shifts I'm on). However, here is a list of things that I enjoy, in no particular order:

- NASCAR racing (it's one of the few things that will actually make me shout at the TV, even though I KNOW they can't hear me).
- Star Trek (I've been a fan since I was like ... 3). I like to read the books, talk to other like-minded people, and I have been to several conventions around the country.
- Bowling. I don't do much else in the genre of sports; I had a serious case of rheumatic fever when I was 8 years old, and it curtailed my participation in more "active" sports. Having said that, I definitely do like to bowl!
- Making jewelry (the beaded sort, like necklaces, earrings, and bracelets). It's very relaxing for me, and the single-mindedness that's necessary to get it "right" is just the cure when I can't find my rational center.
- Oddly enough, body piercing and tattooing. Especially given the fact that I live in what amounts to be the Armpit of America, my interest in body modification definitely sets me apart from other people here. If I lived on either coast, I probably wouldn't be given a second glance - however, living here I definitely have turned a few heads (which is NOT my intention - I do what I do for ME and ME alone - no one else). Having said that, once people get to know me, most of them accept it as part of the package and look past it (especially at work, where it's a non-issue, because they know my track record). But anyway, I've been "into" it since about 1988, slowly adding more over time.
- Playing card games. There are a few friends that I get together with occasionally, and we play cards. Usually it's euchre, but sometimes we play Texas Hold 'Em also.

I enjoy quiet time, reading, computer, movies, etc., but I also enjoy conversation with a few close friends. A conversation with SWMBO is quite enjoyable.

If I am going to get out and do something, my druthers are camping, hiking, canoeing, white water rafting, archery, orienteering, fishing, hunting, etc. I really enjoy animals and nature, so anything that gets me out in the woods is sure to be a hit.

Drawing has been a lifelong interest for me and other artsy endeavors.
I'm always up for something outdoors, whether it's hiking or playing a game or sport-- as long as it doesn't involve water.
Fencing has been a passion of mine for the last few years and I don't see it waning any time soon.
I enjoy cooking too, but not baking.

I also enjoy reading rules and legal documents, which gets me some odd looks, but it's fascinating! I enjoy seeing and knowing for myself exactly what the rule says and how it's worded. Additionally I like when people consult my knowledge of such things because they know if anyone knows it, it's me.

... like a trues ISTJ!...

I am kind of like this with food- I am really health conscious and I like to know the nutrient an health benefits breakdown of everything I eat so family members and friends always come to me if they have a question about food

Reading is my favorite thing to do. If I got to choose how to spend the rest of my days, I would choose to read.

Other things: television, listen to music while driving, tennis/ping pong, being crafty/artistic, baking/cooking, sleeping, school/learning, horses, being in the presence of friends/family, enjoying the outdoors/kayaking/camping, momentary obsessions, and film.

My hobby is customizing diecast cars.

And I like making animated gifs out of pictures I find online.

I'm not as physically active as I used to be and spend most of my time home alone now but used to ride my mountain bike at least 10 miles a day. I couldn't get enough.

I'm a purple belt in Shotokan and went to 2 different schools at the same time for over 2 years while I was active in it. I suffered an injury and was out a few months and never was able to get back into it like I had been so gave it up finally.

I love computers and taught myself to use them back in '93 when they had one at the place I started working at. Everybody else was computer literate and I wasn't about to tell them I had never touched one in my life. It was an Apple and used a floppy disk to boot it up. When they got a new one I was the only one who knew how to boot it up and run it.

ISTJ hobbies, interests, ect.

Hey, guys, I need some help. I'm in my early 20s and I've never met my dad (long story). Lately, a few of my siblings who are more familiar with him have wanted us to meet (seeing as he's very similar to me). He's definitely introverted, definitely a thinking type (like me), and definitely a judging type. However, I'm not sure if he's an S or N, so I would like you guys to help me estimate what may be the case, as I'd like to have an idea what his personality type is before I meet him.

- He loves computers (especially playing chess and various other games, and he's so good he actually beats the computer often).
- He use to constantly restore an old vehicle he had in his backyard.
- He seems to enjoy physical activity (or at least staying in shape) and sports (ESPN, ect.).
- He enjoys traveling often and reading National Geographic magazines.
- He has a piano (which I will assume he once learned to play).
- He enjoys playing his guitar and attempting to sing songs (and seems to like The Beatles/John Lennon, like me).
- He used to write poetry in his youth.
- He's very cultured and has art books with paintings (such as van Gogh).
- He has lots of documentaries of all kinds of things.
- He knows an incredible amount of information, and he's always talking about what he knows and the most esoteric, random facts about everything.
- He's also very aware of politics and international news. He enjoys discussing what he knows about all aspects of the world's events.
- In college, he attended a really good university with a major in business (but didn't go all the way). He's been a baker, furniture mover, and assembly line worker.
- In general, he seems to really enjoy learning, with many Encyclopedias, science books, and various information books about life.

Does he sound more INTJ or ISTJ?

I can identify with the bolded parts. Collecting, retaining and recalling vast amounts of information sounds like an ISTJ trait. I do that, being a generalist and an information junkie. I read up on a LOT of random subjects that interest me, and entertain people with a whole spectrum of weird trivia.

Your Dad sounds like a really well-rounded person with a broad range of interest. Bet he's one cool IXTJ.

I've always viewed an ISTJ as focused heavily on one area of expertise and working out all details to gain a masterful level of predictability and competency. Si is put to use by experience in a field and testing to understand better. If you aren't familiar with that cognitive function I spoke of here's a quick read on it: http://personalitycafe.com/cognitiv...32-intro-function-theory-more-detailed-descriptions-each-function-attitude.html

INTJ's are interested in forming their own experience with things and using a high level of Ni to try new things out to understand them to a decent extent out of curiosity.

If you're knowledgeable of the enneagram I would say ISTJ is 1-ish and the INTJ has a 5-ish feel, though he doesn't have to be any one of those types because he's an ISTJ or INTJ.

He sounds like an INTJ from what you told me.
