20 Questions that will hopefully help me solve this thing :)

    1) What aspect of your personality made you unsure of your type?

I almost always type xNxP. It’s the E/I and the T/F that I’m unsure of. Often I type ENTP, but I’ve been tossing and turning trying to figure it out. I don’t know why, but I just want to have it sorted. I’m the sort of person that tries to seek labels, and the indecision about aspects of myself kills me.

I love parties, but mainly because they give me an opportunity to indulge in wild behaviour and my vices, particularly alcohol, in a social setting. If I’m not drinking, I tend to get bored and go home; not because I’m tired, but just because I simply find talking to people tends get a bit monotonous.

In a situation where I’m expected to talk, such as if I’m asked a question in class, I feel incredibly uncomfortable if I’m not fully prepared unless I can either answer the question and any follow-up questions perfectly, or I can make up a bullshit answer without being questioned on it. Forums and emails are great for me because they give me time to plan out something to say; on the other hand, face-to-face questioning totally screws me over.

I can get seriously sensitive when people question my thoughts and answers. Nonetheless, I tend to try and think with a logical frame of mind.

    2) What do you yearn for in life? Why?

I want to be the jack of all trades. I want to know about everything, experience everything and learn everything. But not so intensely that I get bored. Perfect example: I started a Science degree in 2008, majoring in Chemistry. After a year I got bored and switched my major to Biology, and also took subjects in politics, statistics and law. The year after that I switched to a double degree in Science/Law. This year I’m still in Science/Law (finished all my science subjects though), but have become bored with Law.

I’ve worked in Promotions, IT, Sales and am currently working in Market Research. One of my biggest hobbies is music. I play Violin, Guitar, played a little bit of bass and piano, but probably the thing I love most in music is to write it. I write in almost any different style of music you could think of, mainly because I listen to all sorts of music.

I don’t know what I really want in life. I make lots of grandiose plans for my future, only to piss them all away when I find a new opportunity.

I’m a kid at heart. I love amusement parks, cool cars, big things, futuristic endeavours. I make plans to attain cool things and go to cool places and do awesome things with my life. I accomplish nearly none of them.

    3) Think about a time where you felt like you were at your finest. Tell us what made you feel that way.

Finishing assignments in one night which people spend weeks on, and getting 80%+ on them when other people just pass makes me feel awesome. Unfortunately, these occasions are slipping away more frequently because I’m tending to leave less and less time to complete them.

    4) What makes you feel inferior?

I feel inferior if when someone does better than me at something, I can’t rationalise why that was the case. I get very competitive when I’m motivated, which unfortunately seems to be less and less these days.

Also, I tend to bullshit/manipulate my way through a lot of situations where I’m not sure that I am correct, and for the most part, I don’t know why. I feel quite inferior if someone sees through it and questions me on it in public. I’ve always tried to put on a façade of knowledge and success, even if it may not be the case.

    5) What tends to weigh on your decisions? (Do you think about people, pro-cons, how you feel about it, etc.)

Decisions are made probably by considering whether I’d have fun doing it. I’m a fun-seeker and a knowledge and ideas seeker at heart. I tend to be logical when considering the decision, and it does play a crucial part in my consideration, but even if I’ve found one answer is clearly the logical decision, I’ve often taken the other decision because of impulsivity, and because I often don’t want to hurt another person’s feelings if I pick a decision which might impact badly upon them in some way.

    6) When working on a project what is normally your emphasis? Do you like to have control of the outcome?

I like to find ideas and answers. In terms of control of the outcome, if I’m working in a team situation, I would probably ask everyone what they thought and then made a decision myself based on those thoughts along with my own.

    7) Describe us a time where you had a lot of fun. How is your memory of it?

I had so much fun at my 21st. I hired out the top floor of a nightclub, hired a DJ, invited everyone I knew and basically proceeded to get as wasted as possible. People were buying me drinks, and the speeches were awesome and really funny. My best friend hired a stripper for me as well (who ended up becoming one of my best friends).

Towards the end I don’t remember much of it because I was so drunk that I couldn’t see straight and nearly got kicked out of my own 21st by the hired security guards, but the reason the party was so fun was because I was having so much fun and so was everyone else. We were all laughing, singing and making complete fools of ourselves, and I wouldn’t have had it any other way.

    8) When you want to learn something new, what feels more natural for you? (Are you more prone to be hands on, to theorize, to memorize, etc)

It strongly depends on whether it interests me or not, and I wouldn’t get bored of it. If it does, then I’d probably remember anything I read on it instantly. Otherwise, I tend to try and learn information when it is in point form and simple. But chances are I’d probably forget it if it wasn’t going to interest me later on.

    9) How organized do you to think of yourself as?

The only time I can easily say I am definitely organised is when I need to be at an appointment on time. I tend to get to them quite early. I suspect this is only because I might offend people by making them wait for me.

Other than this, I tend to be fairly disorganised. It’s not that I don’t care, because I do, but I tend to get so distracted by anything, particularly whenever I’m on a computer, that I don’t bother getting organised.

When I have to be organised, say at work, for example, I tend to make plans on how to organise myself. I make schemes and research ideas, but in the end, I get so bogged down on them that I don’t do anything.

    10) How do you judge new ideas? You try to understand the principles behind it to see if they make sense or do you look for information that supports it?

I really do both to be honest. More often than not, I try to understand the principles behind the new idea to see if it makes sense, but I’m always researching, so I would probably end up looking for information to support it. Unfortunately though, even if I can’t find any information to support the idea, I still give it the benefit of the doubt.

    11) You find harmony by making sure everyone is doing fine and belonging to a given group or by making sure that you follow what you believe and being yourself?

Definitely the former over the latter. People have tended to say I’m a bit too impressionable, and I tend to do either what the group wants to do, or if I’m in a position of authority, I tend to be incredibly indecisive.

    12) Are you the kind that thinks before speaking or do you speak before thinking? Do you prefer one-on-one communication or group discussions?

Originally, I used to speak before thinking, and was very impulsive in that manner, but now that I have become aware of it, I tend to shut my mouth, lest I offend someone or make an ass of myself.

    13) Do you jump into action right away or do you like to know where are you jumping before leaping? Do actions speak more than words?

I used to jump into action right away, but now I very much like to know where I “jump before I leap”.

    14) It's Saturday. You're at home, and your favourite show is about to start. Your friends call you for a night out. What will you do?

Depends what I’m doing with my friends. If it’s not something I’d find interesting/fun/packed with alcohol, I’d probably stay home.

    15) How do you act when you're stressed out?

Bottle up the stress, and then explode. I tend to put on a happy face and let everything slide off my back, but when it really gets on my nerves, fight-or-flight comes in. I’ll either take it out on someone in a particularly harsh manner, or get out of the situation and most likely do something that would be incredibly stupid.

    16) What makes you dislike the personalities of some people?

I try to like everyone and get along with most people. But people who question me about things which I don’t have a ready answer for and can’t avoid answering, tend to stress me out, particularly if they don’t understand me very well.

    17) Is there anything you really like talking about with other people?

Music is probably the big one. I’m a big metalhead, but I’ll talk to anyone about any other sort of music, probably not in front of other metalheads though :P

I like solving problems. If someone needs constructive help, I’ll break my back trying to find out the answer for them.

Also, I like talking about anything that would make me laugh. Funny people are awesome, especially if they get my humour and I get their humour.

    18) What kind of things do you pay the least attention to in your life?

Probably my physical health, as well as routine things that I find boring or have no relevance/purpose/meaning at that time. I used to lift weights and devised a program which I thought was awesome. A week after I did it, I got bored and stopped doing it.

    19) How do your friends perceive you? What is wrong about their perception? What would your friends never say about your personality?

My friends see me as the funny guy who seems smart, but tends to be either not talk too much or do weird attention-seeking things. I’ve been told I’m easy company.

In regards to being quiet, I don’t really initiate conversation, but if others initiate, I can’t shut up.

My friends come to me if they need advice. I’m probably not the one to go to if people have a feelings problem however, because I’ll just try and solve the problem objectively. I’ve learnt (but for the life of me still can’t understand why) that people often don’t want their problems solved.

No one seems to come to me for advice on what to do if two people in my group of mates are fighting though, and because of that, I’m often out of the loop of “internal affairs” that may be happening in our group. This is probably because I’m not very decisive on these things, which my friends notice.

    20) You got a whole day to do whatever you like. What kind of activities do you feel like doing?

Oh wow. I’m not sure to be honest. I’d probably stay home and see where the internet takes me. I’m a Wikipedia and a Facebook addict, so they can keep me entertained for ages. If my mates are doing something, I’ll tag along though.

I think you are an ESTP (but one could make a really good case for ENTP). The difference here is that I don't see any mention of possibility. No talk of what you dream about, or what something could possibly become. This isn't critical but it is something of an indicator of Ne. Also you spend a lot of time talking about sensory experiences like being drunk and fight or flight, befriending a stripper, weight lifting and putting on a happy 'face' (which suggests the mindset that if you physically 'look' okay then other people will think you're okay -- I'm thinking an intuitive might not take this approach out fear that someone would see through the superficiality). An ENTP might not be so inclined to be so physically expressive (as sensing is their inferior function). Ti/Fe are definitely your interior two functions.

Otherwise you sound like a reasonably well-balanced ESTP (and much more self-reflective than most I might add).

    Wow, well-balanced. That's something I haven't heard in a while :P

But I hadn't ever thought of myself as an Sensing type, pretty much due to all the Intuitive results I'd got from MBTI tests. But then today, I started thinking about it. I always thought of myself as a possibilities kind of guy, but looking back on it, it was much more shallow than what I thought was the case. It was mainly the acquiring of material goods, fame, fortune, and fun that lay in the realm of my dreams.

Also, I was talking to my younger brother while keeping this in the back of my mind as a comparison. Basically a conversation I had could quite possibly have cleared it up. My parents are going overseas early next year for a couple of weeks and as my parents are incredibly overprotective and don't really trust us, they leave us with our grandparents when they go. Now apparently, my mum told my brother that if I was a bit more organised, that she'd think about leaving us alone at home. My brother absolutely hates staying at our grandparent's place because he gets incredibly bored. I don't like staying there either, but you give me a whole bunch of movies and a computer with an internet connection, and I can live with it. So he said to me that I should get my act together and get organised so we can stay alone. Hearing this, I immediately turned on my bullshit detector and said that whenever mum would say she'd "think about it", it would always turn into a no. He said that it is worth the try.

Now I'm not sure what I should make of this, but I'm thinking that he would sound like a possibilities guy, whereas I'd be the pessimistic, call-it-how-I-see-it, sort of guy.

Also, I read the description for ESTP and I think I could relate. But then I saw what PerC calls the ESTP type: the doer. As much as I'd like to do what I'd set out or plan to do, I'm more lazy than anyone could imagine. Perfect example: For months, even years now, I've said that I wanted to buy a new car. But I'm currently saving up for a deposit on a house (In Australia, a 10% deposit on a decent house can cost anywhere upwards of 50k, but I'd be looking more at a 60-70k deposit). Nonetheless, I'm always saying to my brother that I want to buy a Chrysler 300C because I just love that car, and he'd always say "Well go and do it", but I'd always reply with something dismissive like "Yeah, but I don't know" or "But I'm saving up for a house", to which he'd reply "Well then stop talking about buying a car if you're going to buy a house". I'm a dreamer, but not really a doer. Btw, I don't know what type my brother is, but I'm guessing either an ENTJ or an INTJ.

Well call it how you see it is definitely more characteristic of Sensor over Intuitive. Dominant intuitives struggle with trusting what they see, dominant sensors don't trust what they can't see. Mom's bullshit detector sounds like you not trusting what isn't made apparent.

At the risk of being banned, I might suggesting checking out other profiles. PerC's is a good description but I would balance it with the ones over at Type Central and Personality Nation. That might help make a better decision so you have a more complete view of your type and not relying on one profile or stereotypes.
