    Ti dominant... I think

    1) What aspect of your personality made you unsure of your type?

The only preference I've been sure of since day 1 of trying to type myself is the 'thinking' preference. Other than that I am always second guessing myself as to my other preferences.

    2) What do you yearn for in life? Why?

Success and fun. If I go through life and achieve these two objectives then I'll be smiling on my death bed. My view on life is that first and foremost you should do whatever makes you happy and that you shouldn't stop until you achieve happiness. With regards to success, I've always been very competitive. If everything could be turned into a competition I'd be delighted. Also, I want to remembered by many people as someone who really made a difference in the world and lived their life on their own terms.

    3) Think about a time where you felt like you were at your finest. Tell us what made you feel that way.

I answered this question last because I cannot for the life of me word it in the way I want. I am at my finest when nothing in life matters, when I am oblivious of all of life's concerns. Flying through the air on a roller coaster, winning a tennis match, finding the solution to a seemingly impossible puzzle. It is times like this where I forget everything that people worry about on a day to day basis; money, relationships etc and I just relish the incredible experience in the moment. Nothing in the world, in my opinion, beats feeling this way.

    4) What makes you feel inferior?

Not being in control of my own decisions. I hate it when people assume certain things about me or make decisions for me; I like to have all the information about all possibilities so I can make my own decisions. If I am not in possession of all these things I feel inferior and controlled.

    5) What tends to weigh on your decisions? (Do you think about people, pro-cons, how you feel about it, etc.)

I tend to look at what's logical, and I make my decisions based on what is the most rational and what makes the most sense. I sometimes have conflicting emotions when making decisions for myself, as I find it easier to make the decisions which 'feel' right however I concede that it is irrational to think this way so I normally bow to logic and reason.

    6) When working on a project what is normally your emphasis? Do you like to have control of the outcome?

If it's a project I'm interested in then my aim is to perform to the best of my ability. I like to come up with original ideas that are outside the box. If it's a project that I am apathetic towards I tend to sit in the background thinking of something more exciting. I definitely like to have control of the outcome. I hate working in groups for this very reason. I like to call the shots and make my own decisions although I am open to ideas from others if it means getting the best result.

    7) Describe us a time where you had a lot of fun. How is your memory of it?

This is a tricky question; I can't seem to pinpoint a particular moment. I tend to have lots of fun when I spend full days with my close friends doing something active such as a bike ride or playing tennis all day, with all the fun that comes with it such as making fun of each other all day and joking around etc. Having said that, playing video games all day doesn't sound too bad either :)

    8) When you want to learn something new, what feels more natural for you? (Are you more prone to be hands on, to theorize, to memorize, etc)

I have always had a good memory, which has served me very well throughout my life so I am leaning towards this slightly. However this seems to be the case in subjects that I am less than interested in. In subjects that enthralled me such as Geography, I theorize until my brain melts. I was always asking questions in school, and would favor a theoretical approach over a hands-on approach in most scenarios unless it was something like sport or music, where i would much rather learn by action.

    9) How organized do you to think of yourself as?

I think of myself as fairly organized. As a teenager 11-16 I had a very messy bedroom, yet I still knew where everything was. As I said before, my memory is good so i can remember appointments throughout the day. However, ask anyone else I they would laugh if I was labelled as organized. I guess I am not organized, but my memory can make me sometimes seem that way.

    10) How do you judge new ideas? Do you try to understand the principles behind it to see if they make sense or do you look for information that supports it?

I guess I try to understand the principles behind something to see if they make sense. if someone suggested a new idea I'd investigate their way of thinking, and if it made sense, I'd roll with it. When people make statements or observations, however, this changes, and I will delve into any information or evidence to see if their statement is supported by evidence.

    11) You find harmony by making sure everyone is doing fine and belonging to a given group or by making sure that you follow what you believe and being yourself?

Here's an example of how I would explain this: If me and a group of people were going to a restaurant, I would let someone else pick, because if I chose where to eat I would feel very conscious as to whether the other people in the group were enjoying themselves. Another example would be that I don't like making recommendations for other people, even for something trivial such as a chocolate bar because what if they don't like it? I find harmony when everyone is doing fine but I am very awkward when it comes to helping them become fine. Having said this, I think that people should follow what they believe in and be themselves but I'm often to conscious of what others will think for me to do this.

    12) Are you the kind that thinks before speaking or do you speak before thinking? Do you prefer one-on-one communication or group discussions?

I would say I think before I speak; sometimes this is reversed but on the whole I tend to think about what to say and what people will think before I say it. This is especially accurate when I'm about to tell a joke or make a funny or witty statement. I think of the funny thing almost instantly, then decide whether to say it based on if I think it will perceived as funny by the others. Sometimes I still say the joke and on some occasions it will go over everyone's heads but oh well...

    13) Do you jump into action right away or do you like to know where are you jumping before leaping? Does action speaks more than words?

I tend to think before I act. I like to know where i am jumping before leaping, but I will still make the leap. I just like to know what is the likely outcome of the actions before I act. If I was going to accuse someone of something, I would first look at the evidence instead of diving in and making the accusation, but I wouldn't shy from doing something once I knew 'where I was jumping'

    14) It's Saturday. You're at home, and your favorite show is about to start. Your friends call you for a night out. What will you do?

I'd definitely go for the night out. I can watch TV at anytime and besides, I can just record it and watch it later. This doesn't necessarily mean I am a fan of nights out; they are OK I suppose but I'd do it more to be with my friends rather than sat on my own watching Dexter.

    15) How do you act when you're stressed out?

I take my anger out on inanimate objects. If I stand on a plug I left lying around, it's definitely the plug's fault! Sometimes, unfortunately, I take my anger out on people, verbally not physically. I don't believe there's ever a need to hit someone unless you are in danger of being hit yourself. I tend to try shift the blame when I'm stressed out and I insult people and refuse to believe I'm wrong when on later reflection I learn that I was wrong.

    16) What makes you dislike the personalities of some people?

People who aren't rational, and who let their feelings dictate everything in their life. I also dislike people who live their lives on other people's terms rather than their own. I also dislike people who are uninterested about learning about the world. When people say things such as 'Is Europe a country' I want to sterilize them. However, the people that annoy me most are people who don't think for themselves. These people will always go to places like Starbucks because they perceive it to be 'cool', and will wear whatever their peers wear so that they fit in to a specific subculture or group. Man, those people really make me lose faith in humanity.

    17) Is there anything you really like talking about with other people?

Sport, recent events, technology, religion, but most of all, random facts and trivia. In my opinion there's nothing better than learning random facts about anything and everything.

    18) What kind of things do you pay the least attention to in your life?

Probably my love life at this stage. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing quite like sex with a hot girl, but I'm 18, and I don't see the point of getting wrapped up in a serious relationship. I hate feeling like I'm tied down and committed to something. I've held this view since I was about 14. I like being single because it gives me immense freedom and when you're 18 there's nothing more liberating than doing what you want and not having to think about what others want.

    19) How do your friends perceive you? What is wrong about their perception? ? What would your friends never say about your personality ?

My friends perceive me as sarcastic, clever, cynical, and pessimistic. I'll agree on the first 3 but I believe I am very optimistic, yet I see why I might come across as pessimistic as I am cynical and people may confuse the two. I am also viewed as cold yet sometimes I am seen as very friendly and happy. I suppose it depends on what mood I am in. My friends would never say that I was caring, hard-working, and modest.

    20) You got a whole day to do whatever you like. What kind of activities do you feel like doing?

I would start the day with a full English breakfast, followed by a skydive from a plane onto my own desert island, equipped with a huge bed, the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders and enough alcohol to leave a blue whale paralytic ;)

Thanks to everyone who reads this and I hope you have an idea about what my type might be :)

I felt like completing the alternative questionnaire because I am bored and as of yet no one has replied :)

    0. Is there anything that may affect the way you answer the questions? For example, a stressful time, mental illness, medications, special life circumstances? Other useful information includes sex, age, and current state of mind.

Not really. I suppose I'm happier and less stressed than usual; I'm home for the summer after completing my first year of university and the weather is improving so I'm able to be out and about playing sport without having to worry about money or my studies. I'm an 18 year old male.

    1. Click on this link: Flickr: Explore! Look at the random photo for about 30 seconds. Copy and paste it here, and write about your impression of it.

I can't post the image but it is a spotted brown and white butterfly feeding from a small lilac flower, with a strange blurry yellow-green background.

When I first saw this image I started wondering what species of butterfly it was, because I don't remember seeing a similar looking one before. Because of this I thought about where this picture might have been taken, but because there were no obvious clues I moved on. I then wondered how close to the butterfly the photographer must have been to capture such a detailed and focused image, and what camera he was using. The background struck me as odd because it is a bright color yet out of focus as contrasting to the rest of the image. I spent the rest of the 30 seconds wondering what was in the background.

    2. You are with a group of people in a car, heading to a different town to see your favorite band/artist/musician. Suddenly, the car breaks down for an unknown reason in the middle of nowhere. What are your initial thoughts? What are your outward reactions?

My initial thoughts would match my outward reactions; "For f**k sake!" Then I would get out of the car and look to see if the problem was anything obvious; a cable that has been unplugged, a puncture etc. If nothing was apparent within a couple of minutes I'd suggest that we try to obtain an alternative way to get to the gig such as a taxi or a lift from someone else.

    3. You somehow make it to the concert. The driver wants to go to the after party that was announced (and assure you they won't drink so they can drive back later). How do you feel about this party? What do you do?

I'd probably be up for the party because if I had just seen my favorite band I'd be buzzing and energetic. I'd probably be cautious as to whether the driver was drinking or not and I would be quite annoyed if it turned out that they had been drinking.

    4. On the drive back, your friends are talking. A friend makes a claim that clashes with your current beliefs. What is your inward reaction? What do you outwardly say?

Let's assume I'm not drunk for the purpose of this questionnaire(I'm not an alcoholic but I'd be drinking at a party to make it more interesting) My reaction would depend on whether I was drained and tired from the night's events. If I was tired, I'd probably think about debating but then decide not to because it would lead to more questions. I'd then start browsing the news or something on my phone to see if anything had happened in the world while I'd been at the gig/party. If I wasn't tired, I'd answer back and start disproving their claim and trying to change their opinion to mine. I'm usually quite good at this. The thing is it depends heavily on my mood which is why I have so many conflicting thought as to whether I am and introvert or an extrovert.

    5. What would you do if you actually saw/experienced something that clashes with your previous beliefs, experiences, and habits?

Get really angry in my head but I wouldn't dare to say anything if it was a matter of beliefs or something important. I'd say over the years I've developed stronger beliefs so if it was something I deeply cared about I'd be inclined to say something, but it's something I've never felt natural doing. If it was something trivial such as how they were poaching an egg I'd say something because it doesn't really challenge their beliefs and I could learn something/ teach them.

    6. What are some of your most important values? How did you come about determining them? How can they change?

Probably my atheism. I was raised a protestant christian but since I was about 6 or 7 I'd questioned whether religion seemed accurate or true, and I came to the conclusion that science was more accurate and bible stories conflicted with facts so I strayed away from religion. I kept my views to myself but as I've grown up I've become more vocal with my beliefs, as I view religion as a toxic influence on people which causes deaths and halts the progress of humankind. A lot of people take the view that people can believe what they want if it makes them happy but I oppose this and think that people should be told if what they believe is stupid or wrong, despite the fact it might cause them upset or distress.

    7. a) What about your personality most distinguishes you from everyone else? b) If you could change one thing about you personality, what would it be? Why?

Probably my humor. I'm always the first to tell a joke or make a fool of myself. I love making people laugh and it's something that I'm most happy about with regards to my personality. People have described me as having a Chandler Bing-esque sense of humor and wit and I see where they are coming from. I also have strange ways of doing things which people find amusing. One example would be if an insect flies into my room I have a policy whereby I usher it back towards the window to give it a step towards freedom. If it does not take my help and continues flying around I catch it and kill it to prevent the spread of an inferior breed of insect. Charles Darwin would be so proud. If I could change one thing about my personality, it would be my laziness. I have a strong mind with many ideas that I'd love to implement, but I always over-analyze things I'd say that "I'll do it tomorrow" but of course, tomorrow never comes around and a year after I said I'd get the body I've always dreamed of I find myself sat on my sofa eating pizza...

    8. How do you treat hunches or gut feelings? In what situations are they most often triggered?

I normally don't get that many gut feelings; I try to analyze the situation to see what my reaction should be and what action I should take. Sometimes, however, I can't seem to shake my gut feelings which drives me insane. They are most often triggered when I'm dropped into a new situation and I don't have a reference point to start from.

    9. a) What activities energize you most? b) What activities drain you most? Why?

Sport. I love every single sport, and I always have done. In primary school (ages 5-11) I was in every sport club possible; rugby, football(soccer), athletics, tennis, golf etc. I'm good at every sport I try if I keep at it; my Dad played Rugby professionally so I guess his genetics rubbed off onto me. I also love watching sport and when the Olympics come around in a month I will be in my element. Having said this, I also love learning things. From an early age I was reading the atlas and encyclopedia (i was a weird kid, I know). I love the website 'Sporcle' because I can really test my knowledge by doing all the quizzes, as well as being able to show off to people when I beat them :P. The activities which drain me the most are being in a room with a group of people who are on a different wavelength to me; the conversations don't interest me(You got a new pair of shoes, who the f**k cares?). On occasions like this I completely zone out and daydream about other things which are more interesting to me. I'm really quite bad at pretending I'm interested in things when I'm not.

    10. What do you repress about your outward behavior or internal thought process when around others? Why?

I tend to repress some of my thoughts because they are quite unique/random and would be seen as strange by others. I tend not to do this as often once I get to know people but if I'm new to a person I try to be 'normal' by society's standards. Other than that, what you see is what you get really - I don't pretend to be someone I'm not nor do I act up to things; if I don't like you I'll tell you etc. Although, sometimes I repress outward emotions - I keep a tough shell around me at all times and sometimes I don't let people know my true emotions for fear of looking dependent.

Any feedback would be much appreciated :)

Thanks for the reply. I'd never really considered ESTP because I've always seen them as more comfortable in their own skin than I ever have been: they would go up to the girl they like and ask them out, whereas I would talk myself out of it, and then spend ages convincing myself that not asking her out was the rational thing to do. How would an ISTP act in this aspect?

self confidence has little to do with type
if you know you are a PIMP(entj pimp, esfp pimp , istp pimp, etc) you will do exactly what you said; if you are not confident with women that means lack of experience, bad mood or past failures that instill insecurity, not that you are introverted or whatever

what you are describing there is self doubt and nothing else; the only thing that matters in this aspect is that some types are naturally better with women, so they will learn the ropes faster and they will do better in some aspects ( for ex a Fe dom will deal easier with emotional stuff, but an Se dom will do better with sex stuff)

That's a really good point actually :) With every other aspect I am self confident, comfortable and I feel good. It's just around girls where I become a nervous wreck with a fear of rejection, even if I know they will say yes.

I'm leaning toward ESTJ. You're mistrustful of your intuition and try to suppress your feelings, so you're almost certainly an ST.

    - You examine multiple possibilities when considering a course of action, so your intuition must be Ne.
    - You compared the butterfly and photo location to memory, and you said your intuition kicks in "when [you're] dropped into a new situation and [you] don't have a reference point to start from." You prefer Si as a perceiving function.
    - Te is apparent throughout--you're very competitive, your response to a crisis is to jump in and try to solve the problem, etc. You also show no apparent interest in knowledge for its own sake, making Ti very unlikely.
    - Fi is definitely present, as well. When you argue with someone, your intent is to convince them of your position; if you don't think that's feasible, you won't speak up at all. Fe would prefer to discuss and come to a consensus.

If you're not ESTJ, you're almost certainly ISTJ. Still, ESTJ seems more likely to me, since you take charge in a crisis and like to entertain people.

EDIT: Self-confidence is related to type. Si/Ne users are much more prone to anxiety in general, as they internalize bad experiences with Si and project negative possibilities with Ne. Se lives in the present and Ni is certain of its conclusions, so Se/Ni users have no perceptive source of self-doubt.

You are basically saying that a Se/Ni user is confident by definition and nothing can change that? That feels wrong on so many levels and if we were face to face I would gladly debate this, but to keep it as short as possible every type has negative experiences and self-confidence comes from knowing you can do something right, not by knowing you can't screw up.

And no I am not trying to argue so please keep it casual if you decide to respond.

Interesting, you seem very knowledgeable about your functions but I have a few concerns:

    - I'm not hard working; I've started god knows how many projects and not finished any of them. I really want to finish them but I get bored very easily and therefore switch to something else.

-I hate tradition, and view it as stupid. I hate it when people do things because "it's the way things have always been done".

-When I watch TV, it is always the STJ characters that really grind my gears; they are far too uptight about everything and bossy. I realise that these stereotypes are exaggerated to add drama but I'm really not bossy, I just like telling people how to do something the right way if they are doing it wrong.

Also, on a side note, I think I may have worded the "dropped into a new situation" scenario incorrectly. I love new experiences; in my opinion everything can be improved so it's ridiculous to stick to the known because you would go through life missing out on so many things.

    Thanks

No, I'm saying they have to judge themselves harshly, while a Si/Ne user may harbor self-doubt by default and have to bring in a judging function to bolster their self-confidence.

There's a reason INTJ and ENTJ have a very strong reputation for arrogance, and it's because functions do correlate to confidence.

@Fudds: Well, I'm pretty confident about the functions you use, but I saw fairly limited use of Ne and you don't seem to trust it that much, so I defaulted to STJ. It is true that you don't seem to make too many Si-based decisions, however, and all of the points you mentioned seem to reflect well-developed Ne. Your avatar is also a clear example of Ne humor.

I think the real question here is whether you suppressed Ne while filling out the questionnaires.
