    Do Enneagram types change?

As a kid I know I was a 7w8...no doubt in my mind, but some traumatic events have occurred since and now I'm not so sure I can relate to 7w8 anymore.

Could this be temporary or is it possible I have permanently changed? (not sure what I'd be now)

I don't remember reading too much about this subject, but from what I can remember, basically--no, it cannot. You adapt to different situations, but your basic desire/fear stay the same. In fact, I would say those are largely influenced by your childhood environment along with your natural temperament. What type do you think you are now, if I may ask?

All things considered, I think that MBTI has a better argument for mutability than Enneagram. I'm pretty sure that Enneagram would be set, although I'm open to the possibility that it could change.

I couldn't say...I still relate to 7, in being very spontaneous and needing/desiring to be active all the time, but I also relate to 5, in the pursuit of knowledge...I can also relate to 6, being suspicious, cautious and self-doubting, while I also still see an 8 leadership and assertive side to me. So, you could say I relate to 5,6,7 and 8 to some degree.

Maybe if your brain was damaged or something, or had a traumatic event in your life, or you just decided you wanted to be more like something else.
It could be voluntary or involuntary, sometimes you just have to do it to get in a job you just totally lose your sense of who you are.
But I believe so, people change, and so do their personalities... but not always.. not always

personalities dont really change.. like the others said, certain events might make your personality twist into a wing that doesnt usually go along with that type, but your personality is at its core unchanging. people grow over time, but not that much.

I've noticed that one wing can lose it's dominance and another wing can take it's place. I think I used to be more 8w7 when I was younger.

I only go with five because I'm kind of spread out between four, five and six. So I suppose that I'm just heavily influenced by the wings of my personality. I have done tests first time I got five but since then I've seem to either get four or six. Maybe I'm just using a poor model.

I don't think personality types change that much, however as one grows they might gain a better understanding of themselves as well as the system itself and realize they may have been mistyped initially.
