INFJ Confused About Enneagram Type (Possible 4?)
What's my Enneagram type? Thread, INFJ Confused About Enneagram Type (Possible 4?) in Enneagram Personality Theory Forum; I have been interested in Myers-Briggs Typing and that lot for a little while now and I have a pretty ...
I have been interested in Myers-Briggs Typing and that lot for a little while now and I have a pretty good grip on it (hopefully), but I'm somewhat confused by enneagram typing. I have taken several different tests of the same and different formats and have gotten different results on all of them. On one test I got 5, but that didn't seem very right to me. I took another one and got 1w9, which seemed possible, but not exactly right either. My best guess so far has been 4 as far as thinking the profile sounds like me. Any advice for this sort of typing? Is there a more accurate test? Or is it best to read each profile and then decide? Any information at all about this would be helpful. I'm pretty new to it.
The Enneagram of Personality focuses more on motive than action and personality characteristic, so tests are basically no good in the larger scheme of things. I think the best way is just to read, introspect, study, introspect, read, and introspect some more.

I'm just wondering, and probably out of line here at that, but did you rely on testing for your MBTI type too? Those are a bit more accurate than Enneagram tests for obvious reasons, but still heavily miss the mark as the MBTI system aims first to measure cognition rather than flat-out personality. I think, for the most part, that personality typing by test, no matter which system you're using, is setting yourself up for failure somehow.
I first stumbled upon MBTI typing through a test, where I turned out to be an INFJ. The test I took at first was a four question test that gave each variable (i.e. I vs E, etc) and gave examples and you chose which one you learned towards. Afterward I found out that I was an INFJ I continued on to compare myself to the profile and it was so right on that I was actually very surprised. Since then I've taken several other tests of different natures and I've always typed as an INFJ, and I've also researched the other types and none of them are as close to me as the INFJ type was. So, I guess, initially, I did rely on the test, but it makes sense even if you read the profile and in reading the threads of fellow INFJs.
It's better if you research without bias in mind, so I'm not gonna tell you what I think
I recommend you read about the 3 triads, the harmonic groups and the hornevian groups.
This is what you need Enneagram Triads
If you can decide on harmonic and hornevian you will have your main type^_^
Everything I can recommend has basically been said so far - don't rely on tests so much, dig into yourself to find what's truly you, and read about the system so you can become knowledgeable about it and have better confidence in your type. I would also like to recommend to you a topic in the type Four sub-forum about type Four Misidentifications, which might help you out fi you are thinking that type Four is the most likely candidate for your Enneagram type.
