Ennegram Type 2: Favored Careers and Job Experiences

I am curious to hear about Enneagram Type 2s' favored career paths. I am well aware of the many online resources describing theoretically what should be their favored careers, but in this instance I am specifically interested in anecdotal support. What jobs have you held? What did you enjoy most? What did you enjoy least? What is your dream job?

    Thanks

I'm pretty young, so my work experience is limited.

My first job was a hostess at a restaurant-bar. I liked it because hard work and being around people appeals to me. I didn't like it because I don't stand around smiling my ass off, which is apparantly a job requirement.

My second job was at a sub shop. It was pretty boring because it wasn't a popular destination and people are fucking rude when you work in the food industry.

My third job, which I think barely counts, is working at kgb_, which is essentially like ChaCha. I researched answers to peoples' questions on a timer for very little money, 5¢ or 10¢ per question. I liked it because I worked from home and got to do a lot of research and learn new things, but the pay isn't worth it to me.

At the company I work for now, I have had several positions:

I started out as a receptionist. It was very mindless, easy work for the most part, but answering phones can be a lot of fun; there were certain customers that I loved to talk to. I enjoyed it, but it didn't keep me busy enough.

Next I was moved into the shipping department and worked as a shipping specialist for a time. Eventually, they created the position of assistant shipping manager for me because the manager was pregnant and out a lot. The manager quit recently, so I've been moved back into the department as manager and I absolutely love it most days. It's fulfilling to motivate a team to meet goals and to accomplish a lot in one day. It's physically hard work, which adds to the fulfillment for me.

I was moved into sales when the shipping manager came back from maternity leave and before she quit. For almost six months, I was the sales rep for two of our biggest distributors and also had time to do a myriad of other things for the company, including quality control and returned materials, both of which I enjoyed more than sales. Something in me loves to work with peoples' mistakes-- catching them, figuring out how they happened, coming up with ways to prevent them, marveling over the badly damaged product some companies try to return for credit. That's all I miss about working in the office part of the company, but I still catch mistakes, so I fill that little void I feel.

I worked with kids mostly growing up: babysitter, nanny, camp counselor, after-school program assistant. I work now at Peets Coffee. I want to be a midwife after I graduate from the nursing program that I want to take. I also worked with dog walking/sitting, and cat sitting. And I worked at a museum doing demonstrations and customer service.

I am working as an ABA therapist right now as I finish my undergrad. Then I'll get my masters in Behavior Analysis.

The long and short of that: Right now, I implement behavioral therapy plans for children with autism from ages 2-10(ish). When I graduate with my MA, I'll be creating behavior therapy plans for children with autism.

I absolutely, positively, love my job. I've known what I wanted to do since I was 15 and never questioned my choice. It's the perfect combination of being able to help people and still have a lot of fun. Takes a lot of patience, though :)
