Gettin a tat of your gf/bf's name and why?

Soo this has come up a few times in the last couple of days, first it was me and a friend, then a radio show was talkin about it so now I'm curious.

Not to make those of you that do have them feel outed or what have have you, but to me that pretty much is like signing the death warrant of a relationship imo.
So why? Is it because you aren't good with words? Drunk? Head over heels in looove?
Feel free to answer or not just wonderin.

Every person I've known(Not too many but still) to have done this, now have a cover up.

Also if your SO got a tat of your name how would you feel?

I would feel extremely weirded out.

One of the many things on my "You didn't think that out very well did you? :/" list.

lol, that seems to be the kiss of death in a relationship. Every person that I know that has a tat of their GF/BF's name has now broken up with their SO.

why not just do it in sharpie? then renew it day to day like a relationship?
you dot sign a contract binding you to the relationship

    Just NO!
Lets make this clear, if I could even imagine that I girl would tattoo my name on her, I would stay away from her. Being weirded out would be an understatement.
There is no way you can logically justify that.

    No.

Why? Because I'm not a bludgering idiot.

It's not that I would be weirded out or be afraid of weirding my partner out; I'm just simply not a bludgering idiot.

    Never.

I'm a blood donor, and I would be disqualified from donating blood for at least six months if I got so much as one tat.

I have my husband's name tattooed on me. Judge all you want. I see it no different than getting married to him. Marriage is for life, a permanent commitment I have made, the same as a tattoo is permanent, so is my love and commitment to him.

Because exposing my midriff, wearing cut-off jean shorts, and chain-smoking marlboros wasn't enough for me to truly express myself.

no, that's stupid. and if you break up with them you're fucked. well, not so much as to have to spend all your time/effort/$$$ trying to remove it or cover it up.

    so yes, it's stupid.
