I LOVE, LOVE Star Trek, especially the captains. Here is the types I believe the five captains are.

Jean Luc Picard- intj
Jonathan Archer-enfj
James T. Kirk- estp
Kathryn Janeway-?
Benjamin Sisko-?

What's your opinion?

I'm new to typing but I can see Picard as an INTJ, and not an INFJ. Mostly due to the way he didn't seem to always grasp the feelings of others, but he was aged well enough as an INTJ to have figured most of them out anyways. This is where having the Counselor around helped him be an amazing Captain.

Though I might be bias as he was my childhood hero and still is ;)

Picard's an INTJ, Kirk is an ENFP.

Riker is probably more of an ENTJ than ESTJ-- he's more strategic than procedural, likes (and wins!) at games like poker and so forth.

I didn't watch many episodes of DS9, Voyager, or Enterprise. Archer might be an infp-- he seemed like a sheep among the wolves. Janeway as a character seemed stuffy, businesslike, and bureaucratic-- not loose at all. I'd vote ISTJ, maybe ESTJ. Sisko seemed like some kind of introvert, hard to tell.

Its' all in the language of MBTI

If you use Spock as the standard of what an INTJ..The scientist. is .. then there is no way Picard , who is far too gentle and and warm inside could be an INTJ

INFJ ..the foreseer developer.. Who counseled the counselor? Picard did
Kirk.. ENFPs are not leaders nor are they cowboys..He was an IMPROVISER ..The Motivator presenter
Ryker.. ESTJ the implementor supervisor .. Who did all of Picards dirty work?
Sisko..
ISTP no doubt.. cold detached and a Total analyzer operator
Janeway INTP.. the thinker The designer theorist..

Of course its just opinion .. but you have to think in context of who leads in real lifeand what kind of people they have at their sides to assist them with their shortcomings

I don't think Spock is N even though he's a vulcan. Picard is definitely an intj, it's evident in the first series of star trek and over the following series he developed a feelings side thanks to Troi and Guinan.

I have to disagree-Ventricity. Picard is not an enfj, he gives off the feeling of coldness. And he's definitely not an entj, in fact is not even an extrovert. I should know, I'm an extrovert and he doesn't exhibit the characteristic of an extrovert person. For example, there was an episode where Picard had to go to a banquet, and he told Riker that he hates banquets because he had to engage in small talk and interact with people. And that's something that extroverts love -interacting with people. Maybe not all extroverts love engaging in small talk. There was another episode where Beverly explain to one of Picard 's girlfriend that he's a private person. Laforge is entj and him and Picard are so different.

it's a common mistake to link introversion to characters that doesn't enjoy smalltalk and characters that show contempt or just don't want to do stuff with the other characters. what this is simply a display of masculinity, it's something pretty much every hetereosexual male does in interacting with other people, to show that they are strong and not dependant on others. another reason for the dislike of classical social etiquette is that it normaly has an aura of imasculating chores - you just cannot put your feet on a table and drink a beer in your wifebeater shirt!

you see, not every interaction is smallchat. many extroverts hate smallchat, but they do enjoy talking about interesting stuff, like sports , with strangers. the only people they enjoy smallchat with would be their friends. my point is that it's not a lakmus test for being an introvert.

another reason for me believing picard is an extrovert is that he is a natural leader, he needs to like being in a hectic environment and that is not something introverts excell at. many introverts believe they are leaders, but i have never really seen a good one in jobs where you actually have to deal and lead people face to face

I remember reading somewhere that intjs are natural leader, as long they have support, which Picard has. And his leading style isn't always barking orders, instead he refer to other members of space team for their ideas on problem. I still believe he's intj, but it doesn't matter, it just my opinion and he's a character on TV--Ventricity.

And yes extrovert hate small talk because sometimes I hate small talk.

To the people doubting the INTJiness of Picard:

Picard is most definitely an INTJ, he's leading style and behavior shows it very clearly.
• He likes to spend a lot of time in his ready room because he needs the private time to think clearly.
• He depends on a few people to deal with any sort of situations that may appear, most favorably Riker who has been the extroverted leader Picards need to make it work in a good way.
• He constantly seeks Trois guidance as he knows his own limitations in that area.

He doesn't lead by going around giving orders to people, he has constructed a system for managing the ship where a lot of people play very vital parts. This is of course more or less the case on every starship but it's very evident in the case of Picard. Take Riker for example, he is the "here and now" leader in most situations, he knows what to do, what orders to give and how to deal with situations. Picard on the other hand mostly sits in the back and make sure everything works, he steps forward when necessary and only then.

I'm realizing that I've watched way to much Star Trek in my time when I'm writing this. Also to back up my claim and my reasoning I should tell you that I do indeed have a Star Trek TNG uniform in my closet, so I obviously know what I'm talking about.

I think Janeway is an ENTJ that developed her Fe after a while. In the first season she was very engaging with people but also took a very hands-on approach to structuring them. About the time that she stopped putting her hair in a bun, she developed a lot more Fe and cared more about interpersonal relations between them than hard and fast objective rules.

Kirk's type was changing from one episode to another. He was ENFP, ENTP, ESTP, ENFJ...All of these :D

I was under the impression that

Captain Kirk = ENTP
Captain Janeway = ENTJ

Interestingly, Kirk and Janeway somehow reminded me of each other. They had similar facial expressions and mannerisms for example.
