Basically i was knocking on doors asking for donations and we came across this house. And we walked up to the front door and basically apart from teh front yard, the rest of the place looked like this
It was like a slice of forest. I though that was pretty cool.
Over the past days with the study leave and good weather i've chucked stuff out on the back yard lawn. Bread crusts and bits of meat- the far and the bones and gristle and leftover s from my plate. I've seen birds fly in to pick up chicken wings and fight over bits of pork fat. Its fascinating to watch. You got about 5 or 6 different species of birds fly in. I've seen a sparrow fly right by the window multiple times and peck at a plastic sack and use the strands for nest building.
And i thought, what if you could accomodate these birds, hedgehogs and other stuff in your backyard. Like a mini reserve. I've seen chickens make a second home amongst the ferns. They make pathways and had their sitting places and went there in the summer when it got too hot. Instantly reminded me of kiwis.
