The Personality Cafe "Ask me about" belief thread series

The "Ask me about..." belief series of threads in the Spirituality & Religion section are meant to be informational (rather than argumentative) in nature. There are members who have graciously offered to explain more about a particular belief system, for the benefit of those who would like to understand those beliefs better. Participants who are genuinely curious can feel free to ask questions for the purposes of learning about and improving their knowledge of that belief system.

The current roster of official "Ask me about..." threads includes the following:

    GROUNDRULES

Due to past egregious issues that resulted in thread closings, and to protect the intent of these kinds of threads, we are establishing some basic ground rules:

    1. Ask questions. If you don't understand how a particular belief system works, please feel free to ask in a respectful way. These threads are aimed to be informational in nature, so curious members can better understand what a particular belief system entails.
    2. If you disagree with the belief system for any reason, that's fine. Please feel free to create a general thread in Religion & Spirituality where you can argue why to your heart's content. You can link to those threads from your post if you like, but please take the heated arguments elsewhere.
    3. Sometimes adherents of a particular belief system will disagree on points of interpretation. That's fine. Again, please remain respectful and fair/open in simply acknowledging there is a range of belief within the tradition. State your belief so that members are aware, then take any more serious disagreements to another thread (which you can link to from your posts) if you wish to enter a protracted debate.
    4. If you feel like someone is going beyond the purpose of just asking questions and is trolling the thread or insulting the host(s), please report the post. Do not derail the thread by getting into arguments in-thread.
    5. Moderation staff will be the judge of whether a thread is being derailed from its purpose, so if you don't want us involved, please remain respectful and take arguments over whether a particular belief is "true" or not to another thread.

Note: If you are an adherent of a belief system and want to contribute to the community as an informational Q&A source, please PM staff and we can work on including you as part of this series. (Please note that threads are not a free soapbox to rant against other worldviews or the evils of the world; you are just providing information about your belief system and addressing questions other members might have. In turn, the threads are not a place for other members to 'disprove' your faith.)

Some threads might remain closed until we have at least one adherent willing to take an active role. We're working this out as we go, based on what works.

If you have other questions about policy, you can post them in here, and we can address them for you. We will adjust the groundrules if we missed something or if something needs modified.

Wouldn't it be better to just have the original thread unlocked? There's a lot of information in that thread already, and a lot of questions answered for people. It would make sense to continue there if possible rather than starting over by creating a new thread with an identical name and purpose.

I'd like to see that thread unlocked also.

Same here, I hope they will think about unlocking it...

If you haven't already, you may want to private message Jennywocky with your request. Since you didn't quote or mention her, she may not have noticed your request.

@Jennywocky, I am curious if you would mind sticky-ing the thread I started here Pure Wisdom. I am not entirely sure what my (the featured) belief system would be labelled as like, officially or philosophically. The system is essentially a-deistic as it neither denies the existence of a God or god(s) nor does it suggest even that such an entity is needed to grasp and pursue alignment with moral truth. So, atheism is not right and agnosticism as I understand it is not quite right either. The only concern given in terms of belief is truth-seeking as related to human motivation or, synonymously (to me), morality.

Anyway ... can I join the 'Ask me about ... series?' And just to be obtuse, I will mention that my name is series0, the prototype for all such discussions, ie pure wisdom with no attached dogma. :) It is in fact the source of my name itself, in metaphor.

Is this an actual known system of belief or something you are just making up on the fly? It seems built on the Enneagram system, which is also widely discussed in other parts of the forum.

It also seems to be generated as a criticism of other religions, which is kind of not what the purpose of these "debate-free" threads are.

The goal was to have one thread for a known religion that was not being derailed by argument but was 'safe ground' to learn about the faith, because Pers Cafe was having a problem with religious threads being routinely derailed. If this is not a faith system per se, and one with religious tenets, then maybe it would just be best to have a regular thread about the topic and see how that goes first.

Well, I tried to avoid the 'Boo them' stuff as much as possible, but I did want the 'denial of religion' aspect firmly stated because I do believe personally that mankind has to attempt to unite in near-empirical pure wisdom.

Agnosticism and Atheism concern themselves far too much with authority(God), rather than focusing on wisdom (God's will - or - that which we can sense via conscience). Spirituality (ie spiritual but not religious) gets conflated with crystals and Wicca. There is no meaningful category that contains mine.

The enneagram is JUST a tool that I find convenient to this aim, defining and devoting oneself to universally wise messages, in search of objective moral truths. I mention that in the OP. I have found no better tool so far.

Admittedly, there are few people willing to step way from the tides of support they see in these other approaches and take on the relatively unknown and untried approach of pure wisdom seeking. But that is precisely why the sticky thing is needed. An alternative view that is at once less contentiously polluted by dogma and more challenging in a whole wisdom (all those virtues) kind of way.

Anyway, that's my position. Thanks for your consideration.
