Is there a correlation between the two?
Which MBTI types, in your opnion, tend to have short temper?
My ESTJ ex-husband and my ESTP mom had very short tempers, but I'm not sure if that's type or individual differences. My ISFJ dad is the calmest person you'll ever meet. I've never seen him lose his cool.
Thanks Marie!
My experience is the same with respet to ESTP and ISFJ.
Not sure about ESTJs though. :-)
Without data it's hard to say (how would you measure 'short tempered'?)... but at first sight, I would expect the obvious thing of Extraverts verbalising and showing their annoyance more readily than Introverts...
It really just depends on the individual.
I am ISTJ and had to learn to control my temper through anger management etc. I had a very short fuse and sustained anger.
I'm an INTJ and I can't think of any instance when I've lost my temper. At the most, I'll get really irritated. As someone mentioned, though, it probably does depend on the individual and their environment. Many of the people that I know have short tempers, so I may have learned to deal and live with them by remaining calm.
It also might be an Fe vs Fi thing. From my understanding of the cognitive functions, those with developed Fe might express their anger and irritation more than those with Fi.
Thanks very muh, stone100674! I thought ISTJs are generally very patient, calm and cool. I know a few ISTJs and they all exhibit calm demeanour. Would you reckon it was a unique case for you attending anger management classes, or would you reckon ISTJs in general are short-tempered in nature? Thanks for your time! :-)
Normally I am pretty calm and patient, but every once in a while I lose my temper. I use to be much worse when I was younger, now I only blow the fuse a few times a year. Maybe only two or three times, yet those moments are definitely intense. Generally I keep my analyzed opinion of everyone to myself, but when I lose it I sure do criticize the person rather vocally on the spot.
I tend to have a short and bad temper. I refuse to let someone "step all over me." If something works great most of the time, then sometimes works then I become irritated. Sometimes my defensiveness can come off as offensiveness… I tend to throw things when I become upset/angry.
You start the inferno, arguing just adds fuel… Be careful or you might get burned.
Hope this helps…
