I think we all have heard about the secret service and their self-inflicted problems in Colombia. Prostitution is illegal almost everywhere in the world, in my opinion, its for good reason. Many times prostitutes are forced into having sex with clients against their will, sometimes kidnapped and forced to take drugs as well. Even if this is not the case, the chance of passing STD's is greatly increased.
So my question is, in the case of the secret service members; Why risk so much for sex with whores when there are always women who will have sex concentually free? In the case of men in committed relationships; why risk losing your partner/wife for one romp in the sack with someone who could easily pass deadly disease?
Some people might not be interested in courtship and love, they might just want some sex. Some people couldn't care less about relationships and might just want to take care of basic needs the fast and easy way. Some people might want to see these ladies just for the thrill of it, or to escape from a not so satisfying sex life with their spouse.
There's a million reasons to see a prostitute. I'm not saying it's right, but I don't feel like judging or condemning those who decide to swing that way.
I don't condone prostitution, but I don't agree with the "whore" label. The women (and men) who enter that field do so out of desperation. I'm actually at lot madder at johns than I am at prostitutes- the johns are the ones who go and deliberately seek out prostitutes, thus allowing the cycle to continue.
That's not necessarily true at all though. Obviously this differs in many countries, but I know of prostitutes who do what they do because they enjoy it, and because it has good pay.
As for diseases:
Contrary to widely held community perceptions, American
and Australian research has indicated that prostitutes have
a higher standard of sexual health than the general
population. Unlike many other countries, Australia has
managed to avoid an HIV epidemic amongst prostitutes.
Nationally, condom use amongst sex workers at brothels is
almost 100%. In Queensland, it is illegal for prostitutes to
engage in sexual intercourse or oral sex without the use of
a condom...
At Brisbane Sexual Health Clinic the rate of Chlamydia for non-sex workers was more than two and a half times more than for sex workers

I have nothing at all against prostitution when it is NOT forced ofcourse. Sometimes it is hard to draw line to know when it is forced and when it is not.
Being forced by a human being is no matter what wrong (except if the prostitute would like to be forced ). Being forced by living conditions is something different, the ideal is that everybody lives in good conditions (then the need to prostitute yourself solely for money goes way) but in the reality it doesn't work like this. So some women prostitute themselves to earn enough money, doesn't matter if it is for drugs -> except if the need for drugs has started because of the pimp, kids, future ambitions, practical stuff; I see nothing wrong with this. Being forced because of the need to maintain a drug addiction that has started because of a pimp is wrong.
No matter what, the prostitute herself/himself is never doing something wrong.
I only talked about money, but you can easily replace money with selling your body as a defense mechanism (for example: being raped and to feel more powerful against man, doing this work)
I personally would love to see it leagalized, and regulated. That way no one need have STDs, and insurance would be available. I have always believed that it is an importnat service, and see it as such. yeah yeah yeah, I know it, remove my feminist card and all that crap....but I still support it. It would protect the girls, with none of them being forced into anything, and the Johns involved also. I don't talk to my wife about my beliefs much, we vary greatly on this, and it always ended in an argument.
As for why would they do this? Sometimes people, most usually men, want to get their rocks off and not have to worry about anything else. It's better to them than masturbation, it does not require a commitment or a call the next morning, it is enjoyable for them and that is all. The women do as they ask, and sometimes it is things they don't share with their SO, or feel embarassed to share, and afraid they will be laughed at(I know you should not feel embarassed to share your lust, but IRL it seldom works this way). They could even want to be pampered and see it as no emotional investment, and therefore not taking away form their SO because they are NOT emotionally involved. Males often have sex and love compartmentalized, and they see one having little to do with the other. That is until they fall in love.
The better question is: Why risk sex with whore when there is a booming silicone sex doll industry. For a cool 7k you can have a life sized customizable woman that does ever talk back. And you can't go to jail for it, though I'd imagine it would be awkward if anyone found out about the doll.

Risk of ruining your relationship when caught? (not everybody has a relationship, not everybody has the same rules)
Risk of getting a disease? (condoms?)
Risk of having legal troubles? (not illegal everywhere)
And some risks are less worse (depends on the person; subjective it is). I find the risk of getting a disease (but in this situation condom helps) worse than the risk of having legal troubles (especially when the charges you could get are not that dramatic).
Personally I don't think I will ever go to a prostitute. I would feel too awkward and I don't like the idea that the woman has been touched by a lot of guys (even when a non-prostitute certainly doesn't guarantee this).
I believe in personal responsibility & accountability, so I think that people have the right to do whatever they want with their bodies.
With that said, I am personally opposed to prostitution and the sex trade in general. Part of it is the risk of disease, as mentioned. I get that there's protection, but there's no such thing as safe sex (only "safer sex") so I think it's an irresponsible activity. You head out to a strip club, get a lapdance, go home with the dancer and you're down $200 and you have a bad case of the jimmy-itches. Is that really a good idea? Yeah, I know that not everyone in the sex trade has an STD, but the risk is just too much.
But, like I said, people have the right to expose themselves to risks. The problem is that people who frequent prostitutes will likely have sex with other people, who may not know about, thus exposing them to those risks by proxy... and that's where personal accountability breaks down. I guess if someone fully disclosed their sexual history, that would be one thing, but that's not likely going to happen.
TL;DR - people should have the ability to engage in the sex trade but it's a bad idea
There is huge difference between prostitutes who have access to health care programs and prostitutes who don't (mostly street hookers).
When you don't kiss a prostitute (in countries where prostitution is legal the market is more organized so kissing is a no and wearing a condom is mandatory) and you properly wear a condom AND when the prostitute has access to health care programs, the chance of getting an std is almost negligible.
A bad idea? Depends on the circumstances: it is a bad idea to have sex with a drug addicted prostitute who lives on the street, which is usually the case in America I think.
Prostitution is seen totally differently in the USA than in Europe (like a lot of social issues).
The obvious answer, at least from the Secret Service "Why risk so much for sex with whores when there are always women who will have sex concentually free?", because they think they can get away with it. It doesn't have to be sex, historians, singer-songwriters who are famous, plagiarize, because they think no one will notice. Who gives a shit about the secret service, they're dull, boring, serious, all good perfect covers.
Now for the jokes, the Secret Service scandal involving prostitutes...brings new meaning to the phrase "I've got you covered." Serve and protect somebody's ass.
You're not going to get rid of prostitution. It has probably existed longer than our species have. But it's clear that it's a dangerous carreer choice. Some of the risks of prostitution include:
Pimping, where the prostitute gets a large deal of her earnings taken away, in exchange for 'protection'.
Illegal immigration
Sex trafficking
Tax evasion
Drug use
Extortion
Sexual abuse, violence and being forced to do what they don't want. Both from pimps, and from customers.
I live in Denmark, and here it's legal to visit a prostitute, and legal to be one as well. This has a lot of advantages, namely that we have a special police task force that tries to deal with some of the crimes committed. The women can actually go to the police, and have access to a lot of social benifits that workers in other professions have. When something is legal, it's a lot easier to control generally speaking.
14% of males in Denmark have visited a prostitute, and 61% think that sex workers should have more rights, and their profession recognized. I agree that it ought to be recognized.
The reason why these men are willing to take the risk is no different from the reason why men have paid for prostitution in some way shape or form for all of known human history. It has been dubbed "the oldest profession". Regardless of the legality and other obstacles, there always have and always will be johns who crave it.
So my question is, in the case of the secret service members; Why risk so much for sex with whores when there are always women who will have sex concentually free?
Prostitution is legal and monitored in New Zealand, for the protection of all those involved.
I've dated a prostitute. I've been friends with prostitutes. I currently have a friend who is a prostitute.
Invariably from those that I knew/know - it is all about the money (ie lifestyle). Thankfully I've not run across any of the sex trafficking, which is definitely not legal here in New Zealand.
One friend told me that she started when she was twelve. Reason: money. Haven't seen her in over 15 years, now. She shifted town.
Current prostitute/friend is a nympho who has become more professional recently. Reason: money and lifestyle. She's exceptionally classy, full-on escort type who gets taken to formal dinners and makes scintillating conversation and is given expensive gifts - in addition to what she charges. She has two styles: #1 is the full-on girlfriend experience ($1700 a night-and-morning thank you!) while #2 is as a dungeon "victim" (yes, she lets people hurt and degrade her - I shit you not, we're talking some serious damage here sometimes - $negotiable and depending on how much healing she has to do afterwards ie how long she cannot "work").
Basically, I'm in favor of it being legal and monitored. Reasons:
a/ If it's legal and monitored then it's safer for both the seller and customer (plus checking for STDs is more strict).
b/ If someone wants to cause someone pain, then it could be a REAL victim and not someone getting paid for the privilege in a safe environment (I don't want to think what might happen in the end to real victims).
That said, the "girlfriend experience" is becoming more popular. Seems that there's a lot of girlfriends out there who simply aren't sweet and loving and caring in the morning - even when it's the weekend and they don't have to rush off to work. Go figure.
Prostitution is here to stay, whether legal or not. In the end, legal is better.
Reflection: Strange, all the above coming from an ISTJ. I'm either completely atypical or have an exceptionally open and non-judgemental mind.
And THAT is very true. I know for a fact that prostitutes are often well taken care of due to the implicit risk. Anyway the risk "appears" to be higher there. Complex stuff, exposition is something, but you only need to have sex with ONE infected person to get a disease and that happens every day with normal couples.
The people I know who've used prostitutes have done it because they just wanted sex not a relationship, one had just broken up with a girlfriend and one wanted a threesome.
There is nothing wrong with the theory of prostitution, one gets to do with one's body whatever they want. In practise however, things have turned out to work differently. So you can either completely ban prostitution or make it completely legal. Complete transparency is the only way to weed out the ones who are getting forced, more importantly underaged.
It's just the people who think 'if we don't talk about it it might go away' that are fucking dangerous to this world. Make it a subject that can be talked about.
I've never been to a hooker though, fapping is cheaper and I don't really see the point in having sex just to have sex (well, I do. But but but). It's not exactly a bragging right to tell the guys you paid some girl 50 euros to zuckyo dick.
If I had a daughter or son that wanted to become a prostitute I'd advise them to head into porn instead (but most likely let mom handle this one).
In the United Kingdom, prostitution itself (the exchange of sexual services for money) is not a crime, but a number of related activities, including soliciting in a public place, kerb crawling, owning or managing a brothel, pimping and pandering, are crimes.
-taken from Wiki - I thought it was interesting to know - this doesn't apply to being forced obviously
@BeauGarcon I don't think there is anything wrong with the discussion of this topic when it is approached the way you, the OP, and a few others have...just to clarify on my end
So my question is, in the case of the secret service members; Why risk so much for sex with whores when there are always women who will have sex concentually free? In the case of men in committed relationships; why risk losing your partner/wife for one romp in the sack with someone who could easily pass deadly disease?
Some men are just clients, they grew up with the natural idea of "pay and taste, nothing wrong about it", so they do it like buying candy or food (even if they have food at home). In fact for many men I know it is like "beer, food, music and whores" it's about a package, a cultural thing.
Other men just want to drive a lamborgini, don't take it as a quality thing (more beauty), no no. Many just want to try a weird, very uncommon human body, some just go there wanting huge boobs, or huge butt, or weird combinations, role playing, etc.
Consider the fantasy of having sex with strangers (who pretend to like you), that's very common too.
Some find it very estimulating having sex with people from diff countries, diff bodies, shapes, color.
Besides consider that the treatment is very different, having sex with someone you know VS someone who will try to please you showing off like enjoying anything you do. Your GF, wife will behave VERY differently than a paid prostitute.
There could be as many reasons as people on earth. I get your point and I agree with it and the posts above too.
Prostitution is legal in Amsterdam. That way it's regulated, the women have access to health care and it's easier to police.
I was there last week and it was interesting to see the system at work - there are women on display in shop windows etc.
The system there works better than in places which try to criminalise prostitution.
Why? Because in those systems, they tend to target the wrong person. If anything buying sex should be the illegal activity; not selling it. That is, if the aim is to put and end to the industry.
The main reason prostitution exists, is guys can't get the type of woman they want. Also, it is quicker, and there are no ties.
