Is TXTing slowly getting phased out?

I remember back in like 07 and 08 and that when people used to txt alot. People texting in class would happen everyday. And in some classes you the teacher would have this part on the board dedicated to how many times they had caught people.

But nowadays i havent seen anyone text in ages. Its as if no one had cellphones any more. I know people who have just decided to ditch their phone.

I think people have moved onto computers now. What do you think?

That's pretty interesting. Everyone around here where I live still text just as much as they used to. A lot have moved on to computer use like Facebook but they still maintain their cellphones. They just use the computer as yet another means for which someone can reach them. The drop in texting usage might just be something specific to where you are.

I see a decline in SMS too. Though I think the reason for this is that my friends got older changed their priorities and that I am not connected to many people from my past anymore. But yeh facebook kinda changed things a bit.

A lot of people are now allowed to carry laptops in school. I would say that is the major reason.

I haven't noticed a decrease at all. If anything I've noticed an increase as it's become expected to have 'unlimited' texting. With smartphones, I've actually noticed people on their computers less and on their phones more...certainly on the internet some of the time, but texting quite a bit too.

But I think a good deal of it has to do with location and the culture of the location...my friends are still into texting, so I am as well. An hour away there is probably a group of friends that communicate mostly through twitter or something because that is what the group as a whole has grown accustomed to, for whatever reason.

Nope. More like a 7-fold increase since 2009.
