    The parenting style test

OkCupid | Take The Parenting Style Test

    10% live & let live, 15% best friend, 55% counselor, 15% sheltering

Congratulations! You have completed The Parenting Style Test. Your score tells you how much of a percentage of each of four types of parent you are or will be. Here is what I mean by each category: Live and Let Live- You want your child to be their own person, and to learn everything (or almost everything) by trial and error. You do not want to interfere with your child's development, and figure that they will learn right from wrong for themselves in time. Best Friend- You want your child to like you, so you do what you think a best friend would do. You do not want to cause a rift between you and your child, and worry that if you are too strict or too demanding that this will cause said rift. You want to be open with your child, and are okay with being seen as less than an authority figure. Counselor- You want your child to choose for themselves, but feel they need guidance. You guide more in the early years, and less in the teenage years to allow them to own their decisions, but to not have too many pitfalls along the way. You are there to advise and correct, but are careful not to impose TOO much. Sheltering- You do not feel your child is capable of making their own wise decisions, so you are apt to make decisions for them. You react strongly to perceived dangers to your child, and struggle with letting them go when they enter adulthood. You are strongly attached to their childhood innocence and wish to preserve it at all costs. You feel your child has the right to a childhood, and limit influences which would cause them to grow up too fast.

You scored 10% on live & let live, higher than 37% of your peers. (I had to put a 1 in front of the 0 in the result)

You scored 15% on best friend, higher than 21% of your peers.

You scored 55% on counselor, higher than 72% of your peers.

You scored 15% on sheltering, higher than 69% of your peers.

To me live & let live = libertarian, best friend = liberal, counselor = conservative, and sheltering = authoritarian.

I realized (again) that I don't really want kids when the question of locking your cupboards made me go like YESSS... to keep my books and stuff safe from the kid - and not the other way around.
