AH. Been on PerC too much today. What sort of [internal] difference is there (if there is one), between someone ELSE telling you that you are incompetent (in one form or another), and you personally thinking to yourself that you are incompetent?

Who would have thought I would find myself making an argument concerning faith that wasn't anti-theist?I don't think you should feel guilty for not having 'childlike faith' - after all, you aren't a child anymore, are you? Being skeptical is the best friend of any person, especially any religious person. Taking the time to examine as many angles to an issue as you can and then deriving your conclusions based on that examination will make your faith so much stronger than a Christian who blindly accepts whatever they're told. As for categorizing certain things as 'good' or 'bad' - well, how can you know what these things are like until you look at them for yourself? Did Jesus condemn the prostitute who was about to be stoned to death? No. He told the crowd 'He who is without sin, cast the first stone.' There are no ultimate categories of 'good' and 'bad' - everyone and everything is a little of both.
PS: My friend who goes to seminary at Boston University thinks that you would gain a lot of insight from the book 'The Screwtape Letters' by CS Lewis. In the book, CS Lewis provides a series of lessons on the importance of taking an active, inquiring role in living out the Christian faith.
