Default Extraverted Feeling

Why does it seem that 80% of people who are Extraverted Feeler dominant are women (not surprising)? This type is very rare for men and frankly I don't know if its our society but a Fe dominant is typical of the female gender. Today's society doesn't really want a male to be this type, an Fe dominant male comes across as too boring, uneventful, and uninteresting as a date.

Would I be wrong to say Extraverted Feeling is the most useless of all functions? I mean harmony and emotional contacts are good but sometimes you want to be more practical in life and Extraverted Feeling has almost no use for it to get you ahead. Who has time to worry about if everything is harmonious or going smooth and why should that depend on an individual's happiness. Happiness from the external world is bad security for your happiness and people would rather be independant. Sorry to be bashing this but the way I see it this type is too suited for a woman (,or what todays society expects from her.) I actually wanna know what this function has going for it and if anybody had the choice to pick up functions would they ever choose this?

If I had the choice, I would definitely want tertiary or supportive Fe. The reasons that women seem to use this function the most are typical (cultural expectations, being taught that way, the rigors of society enforcing the function within them), but you'd be surprised how many men actually have this function. In the USA, supposedly, the most common type is ISFJ for both men and women, and although women still favour the Feeling preference by about 75% to 25%, the split is much closer for men (45% to 50% either way, depending on the test). It appears there's an overall favour towards the Feeling preference by a small margin, and because SJ is the most common temperament, that means Extroverted Feeling is the most common, before Introverted Sensing.

Extroverted Feeling has many advantages. It leads one to pick up on societal cues better, be more inclined to comfort someone, and generally be sensitive to emotional cues. There are downsides, often through pushing their own values onto someone else or being TOO emotionally sensitive, but the function is not without its strengths. If it didn't have anything going for it, I doubt it would be favoured as it is.

I like Fe. Although, I would just get rid of the T/F functions entirely- if it were up to me.
It's kind of weird having Fe secondary to Ni.

This is how the combination works for me:
I notice whenever patterns emerge and things change- Ni. I question if changes are necessary- Ni. To myself, I criticize people for being irrational or making bad decisions- Ni, Ti. I call them "stupid" in my head- Ti. But whenever I start interacting, I realize they're just people, not machines- Ni, Fe. So, now it's ok to be accepting and nice to them- Fe.
Fe works to soften the blow of Ni and Ti (NiFeTiSe). It also gives me a social life, because I can effectively participate in relationships (if I chose to be around people, that is ).

I myself have pondered this question ever since I discovered personality typing. I think the reason why the majority of Extraverted Feelers are women is due to the nurturing they receive earlier throughout their childhood. Many parents raise little girls to be soft and caring while the boys on the other hand are raised to be tough and rational. Example; if a girl gets physically or mentally hurt and starts crying we feel the need to feel sorry for them and try to comfort them as much as possible while the boys on the other hand we tell them to "Suck it up." There is a double standard occurring when raising either sex.

Do not assume everyone has the same way of thinking. I don't know where you live, but females in my area certainly adore a man that can relate to a woman. Fe's come across as very charming and sensitive and of course adventurous. So maybe it's only you that comes across like this. jk

Extraverted Feeling for men is certainly not the most useless function. Each function plays its part in society. The ability to connect and relate to others is what makes Extraverted Feeling very useful. The field of psychology or anything related to it is where this function thrives. As an ENFJ, you should be able to have the natural desire to be supportive and encouraging.

This is where the problem in society lays. You should stop stereotyping if you ever want things to change.

You cannot choose who you are.
