You may have better luck trying to find a job at a smaller business. A place where you can go in and fill out a paper application and actually meet the owner/manager in person before the interview. If you know who you are talking to it will help you prepare for the actual interview.

Try the mom and pop shops and smaller franchises.

@Wheeze thanks the for suggestion, too bad there aren't any such places nearby. I'd have to drive pretty far and be able to speak spanish for such a job. I do agree though that in store and face-to-face is better than a "lacking personality" online application. I can show them how I can really be and how I can really work and communicate if I could just meet the dang people in person.

Seriously though, I'm kind of the same way. My motto has always been: So long as it gets done, and doesn't hurt the company or customers in any way, who gives a crap. Unfortunately those in authority rarely if ever feel that way. It's all about control.
    Wow that wording is deplorable.

Well I blame inferior Si for the lack of structure and respect to the rules of communication! ENTPs spit out a bunch of randomness at times, but we do make sense if you can decode it :D

As others have said, BS your way through the stupid online surveys, just tell the company what they want to hear (sometimes i secretly think if the tests are really measuring your ability to conform rather than your qualities as a person).

As far as interviews go, I have HORRID social anxiety, however my lovely brain has also become very good at dissociation. Basically whenever I have to talk to anyone 'important' I am generally dissociated and just like the BS online quiz I just literally act my way through and tell them what they want to hear. That said I was job hunting for 2 years (during the economic downturn) looking for another job, and i gave up on that and am just sticking with my job I hate till I graduate college.

TL;DR: Play pretend in your interviews. Tell yourself you are someone else, someone who is likable and outgoing and who can do anything.

@CaptainMauzer so basically become an actor? lol well, I can do that. Some of the online applications are ridiculous though, I make it sound like I'm more outgoing but somehow they still say I don't fit what they are looking for (maybe they're determining this from something else). However, the other day I did go to an interview, the person loved my body language, my attentiveness, the confidence I exuded and how I made them feel really comfortable. Funny thing is, the only one of those that is most true of who I am is making people feel comfortable LOL (I did get that job, but it's on the other side of town so I had to turn it down to find somewhere closer). So I know about the whole acting thing. Just need to get into that interview office. Still hoping for a good outcome though. (maybe I"ll get lucky this week)

well the online interviews are simple, often making yourself seem super outgoing is a bad thing, the things you want to focus on are being a good "team player", playing by the rules of the company (and law) and showing good work ethic. From your remarks about the in person interview, you seem to have it pretty much down. The online interviews are really stupid, but basically you just have to turn yourself into a corporate money to pass those, it's sadly depressing but true.

I hope you find something soon :(
