This is a discussion on Is there one MBTI type you really don't mix with? within the Myers Briggs Forum forums, part of the Personality Type Forums category; I don't have one type I just don't get along with. I mean, I usually don't get along with about ...

I don't have one type I just don't get along with. I mean, I usually don't get along with about half the ESFJs I know... but even then, if I know someone is an ESFJ I don't automatically say "OH, I won't get along with you because I don't generally get along with your type. Sorry bud."

I mean, that's ridiculous and immature. People who think they are mature by feeling superior as a certain type/letter because they just think they are better and that's what makes them mature... well, usually they're asinine and elitist. We can't all be one type, and I think part of the reason there's so much typism is because we all pre-judge people because of their shallow layers prior to even KNOWING deeper layers EXIST.

I've seen ESFJ and ENFP best friends IRL, actually. It's possible.

In a workplace setting, i seem to get along well with SJ types, and not so well with SP types. Possibly because I have this "buzzkill attitude" & tend to be a worrybug. I want to get along with everyone, but unfortunately my judgmental and righteous side roars its head up everytime an artisan does something crazy.

    I guess that's why they say NF's & SJ's are cousins, and NT's & SP's are cousins.
Even if I want to change this about myself, I can't help not liking SP females in general.
Now if I make a conscious effort to get along with them and remind myself to keep an open mind & stop being judgmental , then I get along great with everyone and I feel that there is hope after all.

High school was a different story though. Some SJ's HATED me, while SP's never bothered with making my life miserable and didn't give me hard time. But that was just high school, and doesn't pertain to real life in general.

I like to believe we can all get along, but that means I have to work on myself too, just as much as everyone else does too. (there goes my righteous attitude again.)

I cant say if I get along with NT's or NF's, because honestly speaking, i only know of 1 NT(whom I get along with very well), & don't know of any other NF's.

The question: how do you know the person you have typed as ____ is actually the type you think they are? ... --> Good question. Considering it's hard simply typing yourself, the person you most understand since it's you, how accurate are we going to be when we're typing somebody other than ourselves?

I have a strong distaste for ESTP types except the 7 w 6 ones.

If I'm in a patient mood, I can get along with pretty much every type. If not, I can get really annoyed by... also pretty much every type, especially if they're trying to dominate me and prove their point without even listening to any logical explanations I offer. But if I have to pick the 'worst' ones, are the types with dominant Fi: ISFP and especially INFP.

That is an excellent question. What's surprising is that if you ask any of your friends or family what they observe about you, they would probably have a better judgement of who or what you are than if you were to look at yourself. That's why for these things, there's a test we take, and then there's also an observational one that you can do so that they could observe you and see whether you really are what you tested as, or not. The problem is, many times we tend to view ourselves more skewed than if others are to look at us, and so we're answer the test in a certain way. And in many cases, people don't like how they are typed because they don't see themselves in that way, but eventually they may start to accept it.

It was hard to type people at first, but usually it becomes easier to type them after observing them for a while, and once you get the knack of it. The types tend to lean towards certain fields, certain jobs, the way they dress, and how they use things or people around them. They may value different things. Also, don't listen to what they SAY about themselves or what they value. Anyone can just SAY something and it could be the opposite of what they are. Instead, just observe what they do or how they live - from personal experience, that's the biggest way to tell the difference.

Sorry if I'm not more specific. Sometimes it's easier - for example, most actors and actresses would be SP's. Most military, cops, lawyers and such would be safe to say SJ. Of course, there are exceptions to the rule, but you can usually generalize pretty accurately by their way of life. Hope this helps! :)

@EmeraldxFairy - Yes, typing takes some measure of actually getting an outsider's opinion, and friends' and family's opinions. Always a good idea. However, an outsider's view isn't going to be 100% accurate. Not even a family member's views would be completely accurate. You need to have both. So the question remains. ;)

The problem is how much of your personality they see, and often even you see, is your persona. I fancied myself someone rather logical, who goes through a rational chain of reasoning based on facts (this I suspect may have been the reason why I was briefly considering ESTJ). And I do seem to be, for all external appearances. But I am actually dominated by an irrational function!

Very good point. I believe I know my mother's type, but there are honestly nearly a half-dozen types my dad could be, and several that my best friend could be. I believe there is a threshold of information that causes your assessment of somebody you know well to be convoluted and very difficult.
