Percentages of each MBTI type in population

I have read different estimates as to how much of our population are supposed to be any given type.

How were these come up with?
Are there comparatively better/correct estimates out there? (If so, where, or what are they?)

I apologize in advance if this has already been asked, or answered, and if so, a link to the proper thread would suffice. I don't have time to rifle through everything to figure it out.

I am yet to see anything accurate. In order for us to know the exact amount per type. 7 billion people in the world would have to take the test. Now even with that, 7 billion people would have to type themselves correctly.....so...see where this is heading ;p

I have to agree...we can only scratch the surface, seeing as the majority of people have never even heard of this personality testing.

That sort of reasoning is why I'm curious. I wanted to know if any such estimation has ever been founded on something other than pure speculation.

Data, maybe. Tested samples of people.

Myers Briggs has data of its own testing. But again, that sample is relatively small and assumes the people were typed correctly.

I think there is a larger amount of introverts and ambiverts in the world than most believe, but in a dominant extroverted culture, the statistics are skewed. It also depends on where you live and the conditions and culture that that would lead to.
