The only time I've even come close to crying for a movie was at the ending of Pay it Forward. What can I say, that movie is has a freakin' devastating ending.

Is it a bad thing that I find it easier to show outward empathy to characters on screen than in person?
Though once the show's over it's easy to cut off the waterworks and focus on something else.
When I was 6 I watched Lion King and didn't cry even when Mufasa died! (Even though it was sad as hell and I thought I'm going to drown if I keep holding my tears however not a single tear was shed).
I can only remember two times; The Pursuit of Happiness when they had to sleep in the bathroom, and[I] Source Code[I] when he talked to his Dad. Blue Valentine was sad but Ryan Gosling should have seen that coming. I guess I don't watch many sad movies.
ISFJ. I've never cried at any movie, not once.
I cry quite often during movies, LOL. Also, when I see somebody's eyes water, mine subconsciously water also. In movies(in many instances actually), I bury myself deep into it, into the story. I do my absolute best(effortlessly) to put myself in the person(s) shoes. I involve myself completely as if I'm the one going through it, or a someone close to me. It's especially easy to do this if the movie has great characters/great actors.
:-)
So far, as we would expect ;), the NFPs are the biggest softies! I just took some quick notes to see if it falls along gender lines (girls crying more than boys was the hypothesis), but it looks like this is not the case, at least from those who commented. Here are some other breakdowns so far...
50% of responding S's cry at movies.
59% of responding N's cry at movies.
73% of responding P's cry at movies.
31% of responding J's cry at movies.
27% of responding T's cry at movies.
80% of responding F's cry at movies. (shocker)
If I can get a few more numbers for the types, I can do a weighted average so that the NFPs don't drown the statistics in their tears ;). Just the fact that 1/3 of the responders to a thread with "crying" in the subject line were NFPs may say something!
I love your avatar =)
I cry very easily in movies =/. It's kind of embarrassing lol. I tend to wear long sleeves to movies I think I might cry in. That way I can just slump in my seat, causally rest my face in my hands, and then catch the tears with my sleeves (which I pull over my hands). I think it's a discreet, casual way to do it. Books and music make me cry too. Especially piano music.
