This is a discussion on Major music choice for you.? I scored moderately high for reflective/complex (60%) and 81% for aggressive/edgy, with low scores for both fun/simple, and rock bottom (10%) for energetic/upbeat which makes sense. I am big time into alternative rock since late 70s punk, and have always liked rock, with a smattering a metal thrown in. I am also into a bit of world music and some techno.

I detest most pop, hip hop and rap - hence the low scores where I got them.

Was a fun little test to take. Some of the resulting descriptions were spot on and others were way off the mark.

I listen to music with lyrics I can relate to or that drives a certain feeling in me. Most often, I listen to Country and Metal.

Shoegaze, oldschool 90s emo, Bossa Nova, jazz, blues, big band, swing, music from the 20s, 30s, and 40s, some rap, dreampop, neo-folk, classical, flamenco, 80s and 90s alternative, and Asian pop music

I don't care for categorization of music via genres. Music is music, some of it is pleasing to my ear and some is not. I'm eclectic when it comes to my music tastes.

Edit: Also, depends on my mood.

Classical, particularly the romantic era, but I like most of it in general
Soundtracks - essentially classical, I love all the sweeping instrumentals
Celtic - fiddle, bagpipe, loreena mc-kennit, not really modern-rockish groups or drinking song type things
    Renaissance
    Gregorian Chant
world music, particularly more on the traditional side, not so much world-pop stuff and the like
new-agey stuff, ambiant, not sure what to call it
    some electronic stuff
Enya - I think she's her own genre....
    some opera
swing & big-band, or old Frank Sinatra type stuff
    jazz
occasionally some earlier oldies - 50's-60's, I think 70's is the abslute limit to what I'd consider genuine Oldies.
Old Musicals - rodgers & hammerstien type stuff, not really any of the new ones, except maybe Newsies

Mainly what I like in music is melody, complexity, many layers of different instruments, and I most often prefer things that inspire a sense of wonder or energy. I like things that sound grand and magical, or which sound urgent and intense. But I do also enjoy peacefull relaxing stuff - high energy/inspiring music can be tiresome after a while.

Classic 70's - 80's rock. Classic Country. A few "new country" (which is just southern rock). I also like Celtic and instrumentals (particularly saxophone and piano).

I can enjoy nearly any genre of music, but what matters more to me is if I can find meaning within the lyrics, tempo, beat, etc...The type of music does not much matter as long as I have some emotionally/intellectually/stimulating response to it. This can be everything from feeling angry or feeling motivated, and everything in between.

I tend to gravitate towards emotional and ethereal music, regardless of genre.

Results - About Your Music Personality, based on Personality Psychology Quiz

72 % enjoys reflective and complex music
24 % enjoys edgy and aggressive music
86 % enjoys fun and simple music
35 % enjoys energetic and upbeat music

Those were my results from that test, and all but the 3rd description (enjoys fun and simple music) actually mostly fit me.

I'm not super picky about the music I like, I technically like all music, there are only a few things I can't stand in a song. I can't stand growling, screaming, guttural noises, or constant repitition of the same sound or phrase over and over again without any type of difference. After that, I pretty much judge a song on itself, not its genre. Even though I'm not the hugest fan of rock music, if there's a song in it I'll like it, and that goes for any genre.
