Seems to be almost entirely a J family, mostly S, but I came out NTP. Father's mother seemed ExTJ, and I'm trying to figure out S/N. Could go either way. Her sister is probably ENFJ. One of her sons (a second cousin) seems to be ESTP. Otherwise, it seems almost everyone on both sides is SJ, with my mother's nothing having been possibly an F, and everyone else, a T.

I think the hereditary factor might be temperament more than functions. Temperament might be the primary factor of personality, with the functions being preferred based on temperament needs.
So the family is mostly Melancholy (Which is both SJ and/or IST), but there is Choleric on my father's side, and seemingly some Supine on both sides. This came together for me, as INP + NT.

No idea about my grandparents, but my mother may have been ENFJ, and my dad seems ISTJ. Me and my siblings tend to be either NT, ST or NF, mostly Judgers and mostly Introverts.

Grandfather mother's side - never met him, but he was a business owner and according to descriptions, really smart and approached things the way I do. I'm gonna type him as an ENxJ.
Grandfather on dad's side - he died young, probably an ESTJ
Grandmother on mom's side: tough one. I saw her as an ESFJ for a long time, but she's hard to get to know. ExTx

Again, I could be wrong, and despite the different personality types, I have functions in common with my parents. I identify with my dad's Te and sometimes with my mother's Fi and Se.

I didn't really know my grandparents...I know my grandmother is probably an ENFJ, she's the only one alive. The others died from cancer, one from old age (95 woo! I think longevity runs in the family...my one grandpa had eight different types of cancers since he was 35, lived to be 70...he worked around stuff that causes cancer. Okay I'm done with my tangent)

If I had to guess...dad's side was
ENFJ (mom) + ESTJ (dad...maybe...all I remember was that he was a dick and was picky as hell and things needed to be done a certain way, etc.) = ISTJ (my dad)

My mom's might be easier...
INFJ (mom) + ISTP (dad) = ENFP (my mom)
