What techniques do you use to type people?

Aside from getting someone to take a version of the test, what techniques do you use to try and determine a person's type? Do you try and match someone's personality with which ever type description fits them best, go through the functions one by one, ask specific questions, or another sort of method?

I've employed all of these methods at one point or another, though recently I've begun to understand the individual functions more and more and have been observing which functions a person uses (and does not use) the most. Process of elimination is also a very effective way for me as well. Of course some people are much more difficult to type than others so it always helps to have a variety of ways to go about trying to type them.

first of all figure out what letters they're likely to be. E/I and S/N are quite easy to figure out tbh.. Ns tend to give themselves away, then once you've got what they could be, match the descriptions.

also different types give off different vibes.. i think i have a good sense of the vibe that NFs give off, since they're the ones im most interested in, although weirdly i've had the most trouble figuring out other ENFPs.

This is just a basic guide I use then I begin to look into more detail.
    1. Do they interact with people a lot?
    2. Are they emotional?
    3. Are they decisive?

    Then I go from there.

Yeah I know! I usually can get vibes about people also...sometimes I'll try and do each letter and then if I get stuck on one, I'll use their vibe...then it's all about confirming it xD

I have trouble with ENFPs also :/
ENFPs could be that quiet kid sitting in the back of the class or the class clown...and on and on!

I think S/N is the hardest to figure out. I find E/I and J/P the easiest. T/F is usually pretty easy once you get to know someone too.

It depends, mostly I look for functions. People act differently in different situations so it helps to see them outside of work or wherever it is you usually meet them. I don't trust the tests because people have ideas about themselves and end up with the wrong results (like me testing as INTJ all the time).

When me and my friends hang out together, I kinda make simple MBTI quizzes for them, just for fun. I ask questions and ask them to answer it one by one. And then I tell a brief explanation about their type and see how they will react. That's how I found out about their type, although sometimes it's so easily to just guess the type and then confront it to the person.

It's not quite easy to guess other's type more especially if they have developed their less dominant functions. It'll be different to differentiate between learned behaviors and the ones that come naturally.
People act differently depend on their environment too. Work environment vs casual hanging out moments and the times they spend with their family.

Correct. Even the test can be wrong sometime. It can be easily misinterpreted and it also depends on the influences that they got from other people before the test.
e.g. Imagine that you have just attended a personality development workshop or sth else similar.

I start by determining the person's dominant (and maybe auxiliary) functions. If I can either pinpoint the dominant function or determine the top 2 functions (but not their ordering), then I'll have narrowed it down to just two possible types. From there, I think about the difference between the two possible types and look for cues and clues to help me decide between them.

I type people semi-intuitively. I'll start by recalling certain behaviors (I remember everything, people think it's creepy) and then from there determine each letter.
I try not to type people I don't know relatively well though...
