    Your parents types

The empathy thread got me thinking about my parents and how they have affected my personality growing up. Having a father that is an INTJ and a mother that is ISFJ, I've been influenced by both a lot. I do for example have certain traits of an INTJ and my mothers empathy for others have also had an affect on me growing up.

Do you know what types your parents are and how have they influenced you?

    Mother: ISFJ, possibly INFJ

My mother is usually the one who picks me up after my Pness has gone and made me do something stupid. Oddly enough, she's also the one who's there to berate me for it in a very self-riteous tone.

    Damn judgers...

    Father: ISTP

As far as ISTP parents go, my father is textbook. He never took a great emotional interest in me and my siblings, but I can remember every saturday when he was lumbered with us he'd always have some great activity planned. Well, either that or we'd be dumped on grandma for another week...

As I got older, he always took a great interest getting me to do stuff with him like fix a bike or learn how circuits work. I suppose that was his ISTP way of showing love?

Actually, having an ISTP parent is useful because it's helped me to see all of the pitfalls associated with my type. My father has a very heavy Fi and it's lead him into being a rather inconsiderate person; seeing him has made me realise that the way an ISTP develops lies greatly in prioritizing Fe over Fi as it balances out all of the weaknesses associated with Ti.

I feel that my mother influenced me more than my father, because my father was never around, as he worked night shift my entire childhood.

However I do find that I have traits of both my parents, as well as my grandfather

Mom I honestly do not know, issue is her extro/introversion I can't figure out, but more than likely a feeler type all around, given that logic isn't her strong suit.

My father is highly likely an ISTP as well, albeit a tad unhealthy in his own way.

My mom is an INFJ who often tried to fix mine and my brothers personal problems out of concern, rather than helping us fix them ourselfves. This was very annoying espcially for me because I like to do things my self. She was also very prying when it came to my personal life, which caused me to close up even more.

My dad is an ESTP, I've been told that ISTPs and ESTPs theoreticly should get along, but I found my self constantly getting into arguments with him. After a while I also disregarded his opinion as I found it to be very biased. He was a bit of a Kid at heart which was great when we were kids, because he would play with us a lot. This was also a bad thing because he would sometimes act immature and arrogant around me whenever we got into fights. It seemed that no matter what I said he always was "right", I think that this caused me to grow apart from him as I got into my teens

    ESTJ father
    INTJ mother

ESTJ father taught me to overplan for things, and pack way too much gear for camping. Taught me to wear jackets when its cold outside even if I'm sweating after a workout. Taught me manners. Taught me that being a nerd is highly frowned upon and that I'm a child and that is unacceptable.
INTJ mother taught me arts and crafts and carpentry and stuff, and also that I'm a fairly unintelligent person whose opinions aren't worth much because they change frequently.

Mom tested ISFJ, Dad tested INTP

    My suspicions are:
    Mother: ExFJ (more likely ESFJ)
    Father: xSTx

I don't get along very well with my mother. Too structured and set in her beliefs.

    INFJ mom
    ISTP dad

I learned almost nothing from them since they didnt care what on earth i was doing at all and as long as i was quiet alone in my room, they were happy. Bug them and they did not even respond. I did learn how NOT to be like a weak spined pushover like my dad is over observation however.

Who i did however learn from was my ENFJ grandma with whom i spent every summer since i can remember. She gave me a lot of my morals, values and emotional stability which helped a lot. Religious nutjob but a deeply good person deep down. Havent met as pure of a soul ever since. And she was 80+! And still pure hearted.

Dad: Almost 100% sure he's an ISTP.
    Mom: ENFJ, probably.

I'm exactly like my dad and completely opposite from my mom. Meh. It's not that I particularly like my dad (I mean, I love him and all but he's sort of a dick) but I've just picked up a ton of his traits and habits.

My sister's an INFP, so she's a mix of the two, haha.
