Only if people are of about equal competance (can be in different areas). Otherwise I feel crap if I can't contribute anything or annoyed if someone else isn't contributing anything. Oh and people have to be on good terms with each other, inclusive and not all cliquish.

ok, so if the general consensus is that ISTPs don't like working in partnerships, does this mean there may actually be some significance in his actively attempting to work with me on my business project?

he emails/updates/ghcats with me about it literally every day. and he says it's fun. i guess i've just been wondering if it's 100% the project itself that he enjoys so much or if there is something about our relationship that makes it fun for him/draws his attention.

^^^It's probably a little bit of both. But, not all of us dislike group settings. For instance, I was at band rehearsal with four other people, one I'd just met, for four hours.

If people pull their weight and I don't have to baby sit or supervise their work, then I don't mind group work. It's just in my experience that people rarely do.

istp's have a tendency to launch and devour and work with amazing zeal on a project they find interesting at time, see the obsessions thread. It may or may not be related to you. The real deal what is going on between you two is not clear from such short glimpses. If you want clarity, you have to ask him direct what is he looking to gain out of this. Blunt and direct works on istp's quite well. As long as there is no emotional baggage with it.

If I'm working with a group, give me a job I can do individually.

    Yeah, I quite agree.

Anyways, at you, original poster, I'm in a relationship with an INFJ and that seems to be the general way the two of us work too. I know it definitely works rather well with INFJ-ENTPs, so you're not crazy. Thing is, I'm don't have enough data to make a statement about dynamics in an stereotypical ISTP.
...Were I you, I might talk to the aforementioned INFJ as she's better versed in the sagely ways of type dynamics and whilst I can speculate on ISTP psychology, she'd be better at it.

On a side note, this may also be a separate axis of attraction, i.e. you may be into ideas. (Which are rather delightful things, ne?) To clarify my thinking, as I am kind of speculating as I'm typing here, ever go to a museum on a date?

    I would have said

    "I don't like collaboration"

from just reading the title, but it looks like it was a bit different in your case. I'm not sure though, this has never happened to me. Usually group projects just end up with me not being able to relate anything to people because someone took over and I have no idea what's going on with the project. I much prefer being able to do my own thing, with no outside interference to mix things up, etc.

I can see how it might work if both of your projects were completely independent and compartmentalized, but joined up at the same time. I don't know if it would work, but it sounds like an attractive substitute for 'teamwork' to me.

If you get me interested in a project you are doing, I'll constantly be trying to talk to you about it.. if I'm very interested in it. And obviously you have to like the person enough to bother caring at all. It most likely means that he's loving the idea of this project, and that he thinks you are good at what you do in it. (At what part you play). The fact that he is constantly messaging you about it is a sign that you have his interest now.

Obviously this is all my opinions. This is just based of what would be true for me..
