Regarding post numbers...yes I completely agree. Of all the message boards I have joined in my lifetime (and they number in the dozens), I don't think I've ever exceeded 100 posts where some of my friends can easily top 1000. I'd much rather put time and effort into posting something meaningful and informative rather than restate the obvious or give my mark of approval or whatever else people do to justify their online existence.

As far as computers go, they just naturally captured my interest from a very early age. Since computers have been the hot topic of the last 20-25 years (as opposed to let's say...cars) it's something I gravitated towards.

My hobbies are very much "on again, off again". For example, I'll spend every spare minute of the next 2 weeks working on home improvement projects, drop it totally (whether finished or not) and pick something else up like drumming or softball or a computer game. Sports are really good because they're seasonal and never last too long. Come to think of it, most of my hobbies naturally ebb and flow with the seasons.

Of course I use Apple/Mac, because I'm smart.

if it were 120 years ago, we'd all mention "steam engines and electricity" for our hobbies :D

120 years is too far back for electricity. Oil and gas lamps were still being used. Large parts of our country weren't even electrified until after 1935 when President Roosevelt signed into existence the Rural Electrification Administration.

So with the summer nearing was wondering if anyone has any ideas about some good hobbies to try out? Been addicted to computer games for too long and would love a chance to do something more useful during the summer.

Oh yeah, I remember archery, way back in Summer Camp when I was a kid. We even got to wear feathers too!

If you just want to do some target shooting, get a BB gun. If you really want to shoot something up, get a shotgun, 12 gauge-pump.

Gambling? From bad to worse. Its so easy to lose control and end up losing all of your cash in a very short time span. I want to get away from gaming and find something more "productive" to use my free time with.

Archery... well... you could use it for hunting? There also are tournaments probably for it but those would require a few years of training and practice to gain enough experience to even hope to compete. Crossbows i feel are too "simple" as in all you do is add a bolt, aim and shoot whereas with a bow you have to have pretty good hand-eye coordination to get off a decent shot.

But if anyone has any good ideas or suggestions on some other "hobbies" or "activities" to throw into the mix it would be great. Got no idea how to use up the free time :s

Methinks no.

I get my bug around once a year and will lose $100 without fail. It's the same bug that makes me teetotal for a month and then drink heavily the night before a big event.

Archery is fun, but like all activities, if you're there just to shoot and have fun you've got people who do it as a major interest... can be intense.

For hobbies, I'd suggest working out and hiking:

* get fit.
* only need yourself.
* not too expensive (depends on where your gym membership is).
* these two activities complement each other.
