Is socializing a job or a role for you?

Here I am in the wonderful ISTP forum again! I'm wondering if ISTPs enjoy socializing or if maybe you see it as a job, or a role to fullfill at times? Do you ever do something to get attention because someone expects you to, because it will help an event or some other situation?

I know everyone's different, but I'm wondering how you all see it? Thanks!

It can be some of both, I guess. My "party role" usually begins by observing and analyzing the people present, to see if the social version of me fits in (which it usually does somehow). After some time, I'll start throwing in witty one-liners to see if somebody catches up. If they do, I have an ally, and I'm likely to use that person as a "base of operations" for the rest of the evening. If not, I'll gradually "lower the standard" of my humor until somebody catches on, and then continue as above. This usually makes me enjoy the evening, even if I'll need some time to recharge later on. When I spent more time with people, I could go on being social for an entire weekend, and then I'd spend the working week in a kind of social hangover, where none but my closest friends were allowed to come near me.

When it comes to being social as a "job", it mostly happens when I have to spend time with non-thinkers. This term, I mostly use to describe economists, politicians and other similar types, who live by rules rather than by common sense. If it takes all my power not to go medieval on their asses (poor donkeys), I see it as a job to socialize.
