    It is really interesting

It is really interesting that the bigger and stronger ants know that it is their duty to protect the smaller and weaker ants from any outside threat. I wonder if there are people like that, who know that they exist to protect others? Perhaps, that is the instinctual basis of Chivalry (and, Bushido) among Homo Sapiens. Being interested in Sociobiology, I wonder about that!

You mean our purpose as humans, as ISTJs, as bigger lifeform or as simply lifeforms?

You know this thread seems more suited to the philosophy section of the forum.

Ah, you mentioned Bushido, excellent :)

I often wondered about similar things myself concerning stronger people, compared to those of less strength, I think it somehow has to be nurtured, or cultivated by a certain disciplenary authority, which means with some guidance, and in fact in the case of the ants that might be the situation.

One might argue that in a way all parents have some form of this strength of protection over their children, but of course I doubt it often extends much past their family, which is why I mentioned the authority figure having some sort of role in leading this attribute about further. I think outside of the general parental role though, or even sibling role, it might not be found too much, perhaps because such a concept in itself suggests that there would be an opposing strength making one take advantage of the weaker, and thus it having to be confronted by the strong person, most likely as a defense that is not being given elsewhere toward the weak one.

I think this ISTJ is broken. He speaks of philosophy.

I'm pretty sure there are people who feel that way and maybe do exist for just that. I think cops, firefighters feel like that but not sure pretty much anyone in a protective job field must feel that way a little bit? I would think so

I have two ISTJs that I know of in my life, both women. They are both very level headed and can be counted on to bring me back to shallow waters when I am out in the deep end. Sometimes I need this, sometimes I like to explore and take chances, so I brush it off. When I know I needed that influence, though, they are there. They both keep a steady course, and they certainly don't like when life throws a monkey wrench in their plans, but they right the ship and continue.

I would say, as an NF, I don't look to them as protectors or guides because we don't think or communicate the same in any way. Because of this, our conversations and interactions are always very friendly, but basic. However, they are tremendous supports for other people. One is a police officer, the other has always been the mother figure for her group of friends. They certainly take protecting others seriously.
