    INFPs and ISTJs

I am very curious about this. I find ISTJs to be near aliens in terms of being able to relate to them. I have never gotten along with an ISTJ in my life. I am here as a sort of an experiment mostly. So do you guys also find INFPs to be alien?

INFPs are very different people from us ISTJs. I personally think they have a very interesting personality. They are different, yes. And sometimes their style of thinking leaves me baffled. However, an alien? No. I can still understand and respect them, their decisions and behaviour. I can generally see their point of view, different as it might be from mine. Though, I don't know any INFP personally since none of my good friends include an INFP. The above is just my general observation.

The girl i sit right next to at work is an INFP, and we get along great. - perhaps not friends, but close acquiantances
There's a number of tendancies and opinions we share (albeit for differing reasons), which helps.

Sometimes i find it a bit of a battle trying to understand her position on a given situation or circumstance and she, mine (to be expected really), which i've noticed on occasion starting to warm up the conversation, though we often end up finding some sort of common ground.

It's helped me develop my F by watching how she interacts with people too.

My dad's an INFP and we get along great. I get along with him a lot better than my ISTJ mother actually. Also, the friend that I've had the longest (11 years) is an INFP. My dad definitely pulls out my N and F. But I've never had a problem with either of these people. They're actually both very logical, they just use feelings to figure out the logic instead of thinking. I know that sounds weird but I don't know how else to say it.

    Unknown Personality

I have noticed that the ISTJs I know personally, learn about me and what I can teach others by observing my behaviour and responses. They will be curious about it and figure out how it works and why - and they seem very approving of it too. I guess I can definitely make their 'F' shine in an uncommon way -- and it usually takes a bit of effort for them to stay patient of my deeper ramblings and the kind of perspectives they don't understand immediately. They love my analogies though. I guess ISTJs bring out the 'E' in me. In conversations, we can sometimes clash but we definitely go away and ponder on what the other said and bring out the validity of it. So next time we are talking, we bring it up again and mention why it is soooo legit for our own respective reasons. I am also pretty rational/logical at times and they definitely enjoy conversations with me when I am in this mode. I love what the ISTJs can provide me in this mode because they have an ability to notice details that I have learnt over-time is crucial to a degree... as long as it's not about tackling every tiny specifity cuz it's too blah!

ISTJs appreciate me and I appreciate them. But we are better off not hanging out 24-7. They get along better and much more easily with my ENFJ contrasts

ISTJs are fascinating because it's like knowing aliens. Ain't aliens very attractive? I mean, so different...just the different side makes it worth it.

And, I will warn you; the people you call ISTJs might be just morons. I mean, I attributed SJs a lot of negative characteristics that I'm seeing, have nothing to do with SJs. Just with being a sad, sick moron, something
    our world is full of.

My parents are both ISTJs. And we hate each other with a passion.
So you know. But maybe they are just morons. :)

ISTJ's aren't aliens at all, it's just a matter of taking the time to learn how they think and function. Very different from INFPs - yes. But I am fascinated by the similarities and differences. Knowing ISTJs in real life has helped me be less sensitive. My weaknesses are their strengths and vice verse. We frustrate each other at times...but there seems to be a mutual respect there also. We both recognize that we can learn much from each other if we're patient and willing. And it's kind of like a puzzle to me...trying to figure out the ISTJs in my real life. A very challenging puzzle. It also feels like they stand back and observe me...so we're kind of working the puzzle together, just from different angles.

I have learned so much just from reading this sub-forum. Sometimes I'm amazed at how much two personality types that function so differently can have so much in common. I personally have a soft spot for logical ISTJ aliens.
