    Your job/career?

ISFPs, what's your current job or career path?

Is it what you want to do or are you doing it just to get by?

What would you like to be doing?

I've been thinking a lot about this lately because I really don't know what I want to do with myself (I know it's common, but it still sucks). I'm curious about what others do for a living and how they got there.

As I want to achieve something in computer field and do something best in that field. So right now I am doing my bachelor degree in computer engineering. And I want to suggest you that if you are confusing in choice of field for your career then you should take such a field in which your interest is their and also in which you can enjoy what you do.So choose your hobby and take a passion as to make good career.

I'm not working yet, but a running theme with ISFPs is that they either strike out to go for something that really inspires them, or do something that they can do fairly easily (which shouldn't be difficult, since they're usually jacks of all trades) but also gives them enough time and freedom to pursue the 'real' goal outside of it.

My current idea is to become either a language teacher or a counsellor. The former is because I became infuriated by good subjects being ruined by poor teachers in my school years, and basically want to show them how it's done (indeed, how very easy it all is!). The latter is because I actually like it when people open up to me and give me an insight into how they feel; I really like analysing that, and I like helping people through their problems, I find it really rewarding.

Both of those jobs have potential people problems, but children I find easy to deal with, and I already have the upper hand as a counsellor. ;) I'm also hoping the regular contact with people and their problems will be inspiring for the great novel I plan to write as I'm working those jobs.

The other important thing is that both those jobs are very MEANINGFUL. Meaningfulness, delivered not with tiresome planning and passing jobs through others, but with our very presence, and from the native skills of patience and understand that we have, is one hell of a motivator for ISFPs.

Not working now, though I hope to soon.

Yep that'll be me. Current options involve HR, some administrative job, forklift operator and bus driver.

There is no real "dream job" in my case.

Got organisation/counseling (dunno how to translate it properly, the more business/work oriented stuff than clinical) psychology degree but meh, no real incentive to choose that path over the others.

I'm a freelance digital artist, currently working for as colorist for a comic book company, and an interactive storybook project.

It's pretty much as close a dream job as I have, because when I was a child, all I ever wanted to be was an artist. I'm happy doing what I'm doing now, though working as a concept artist for some game companies (ideally Blizzard) would be pretty damn sweet. A next step in my career ladder, that's for sure.

I was, however never really ambitious, like, I never cared for glamour or showiness or expensive things or lots of luxury. I just want to be the best in my chosen field of expertise (illustration) , make a respectable career and comfortable living out of it, be respected and held in high esteem by my peers

I also have so many stories in my head, which I plan to do as a comic book series. It's kind of intimidating now as I see it's a huge amount of work...so I haven't started yet.

and make lots of art to entertain and touch the hearts of people and be remembered for it ;)

Currently, I'm working a day job as an assistant in an optometrist's office, which I enjoy because I feel like I'm helping people, and I get to work hands-on with neat instruments, and it also gives me time to pursue my real passions in the evenings and on weekends: theatre/singing and photography.

Eventually, I'd love to do photography full-time, but I recognize I may always have to have a more 'traditional' part-time job as well to help pay the bills. (And I did briefly consider singing or acting as a career, but I'm quite happy doing it in my free time for myself or spending a lot of time at our local community theatre.)

(I also considered everything from computer programming to architecture in my quest for my ideal career.)

I'm currently an Au pair, I just took the job for something to do. Then I discovered I'm really good at working with kids and I have fun doing the job. I also like it because it means I get to be outside a lot.

What I would like to be doing is photography or writing music. It's kind of hard to think of those things as more than a hobby when I don't have any college qualifications.

I've been thinking about this a lot lately too, because I'm trying to write an essay on what my career should be based on my personality type. It's so frustrating to write about when I have no idea what I want.

My best advice is this: Try finding a job that you would do for free.

I did a cabinetmaking apprenticeship with my Dad, after dropping out of high-school, and absolutely loved it, but an economic downturn, and a bad back (riding a mountain bike at top speed across a dry creek-bed wasn't a good idea) put a stop to that. Since then I've done factory work (biscuit production line) and spent three years being an engineering draftsman (learning on the job). Now I am a struggling Secondary Education student. I can't figure out, for the life of me, how I'm going to survive as a teacher. Teaching is crazy hard work, with crazy long hours, and far, far fewer holidays than people believe.

I'm an animation student at an artschool and hope to work in animated films. It is what I sincerely want to do, but I worry that I won't be able to get a decent job out of it when I get out. Or graduate at all. My school's animation program is particularly competitive and the failure rate is fairly high. >_< I could have gone to a cheaper college and picked more stable career choices, but I'm taking the risk with the specialized route. My parents were not happy, lol. I'm grateful that they still chose to support me after...a lot of convincing.

I'm surprised at all people oriented jobs here. :0 I'm bad with children...
