Artists i trust your sense and sharp instinct that you live in our time right now, do you like contemporary art nowadays or you personally feel it is getting worse? Do you have hope in fine art today, or it is hopeless to your sense, allow me to know, I want to learn, (i am an artist, unfortunately born INFJ, it seems it won't work well posting this in my INFJ forum, haha, in my view)...so be it.

I am also afraid to post things in the Artists forum, because I am new and I don't like things like cell phone or email by nature...sigh..., (but I like brushes!! down to my multiple toothbrushes!!, haha), I know you guys might come from all walks of life, it is, but you will always be an Artist, right!??, there is no right or wrong, I need an input to make some sense, (any observation welcome), your sharing is all I care, informal or formal fine, we all might learn something new too!, I hope, let's roll!!, Thank you.

Contemporary art is overrated.

Most contemporary artists put too much value on calling themselves as "artists" and too much effort on posing as one.

I don't go to exhibitions alot, of what I see some is nice, like Audrey Kawasaki, paper art and barbie art. Other bits are very dull. It really depends on the work. If it's a tad morbid/plays with the human form though not necessarily in a violent/negative way, I'll probably like it. I like the artist to be very involved with their work too.

Most contemporary artists dont have any recognition as being artists. It's sad that people think they need to be famous in order to be an artist. If you "pose" as an artist you're not an artist... you're on your way to becoming an art critic...

You shouldn't say "most" contemporary artists... what you see/read about is only 5% of contemporary art... the rest are hidden gems, afraid of fame, locked in their studios living their anti-social creative lives.

TBH it's hard to tell what I really like, I have to see it to tell you. Maybe give us some examples? I like abstract art where it's just colors that represent a mood

What I don't like about the art of today is that it most of it seems to be about making money, or trying to shock people. The money thing I have issues with. I think art loses it's integrity when rich people invest their money into it and half the time they invest their money in complete rubbish! Stuff that I would not call art at all!

^ I dislike the "shock value" aspect also. It sometimes seems there is a race to be provocative & do the next new thing first. It feels...contrived.

However, patrons of the art have always been the wealthy elite. The famous art is always what has been endorsed by someone with clout & money. I too wonder how much good art has gone ignored due to not knowing the "right" people, and/or being ahead of their time. Of course, many great artists were not "discovered" until after they died for those very reasons....
