    Introverted Sensing (Si) and Organisation

    Hello there Si-doms,

How does your system of organisation actually operate?

All the Si-doms I know are very organised, partciuarly with regards to time. They seem to know what needs to be done, when, and how long it might take.

When you meet a new situation in life, how do you go about classifying it? How do you prioritise your actions?

This is where I have a snafu because I have Primarily Inattentive ADHD and have very poor time awareness, planning, , etc. However, I am good at organizing in regards to making everything look neat on my desk, room, work area, etc.

I schedule out my days in a little notebook to optimize efficiency and so that I can remember what needs to be done - my friends are usually really enthralled by it because you can see generally what I did (or at least what I attempted to do) every day for the past few months in that notebook. :P

I venture that when you say new situation, you mean a new set of tasks. So when I meet that, I will make a little list of things to do based on time-sensitivity and the order in which things must occur if they rely on one another.

Additionally, if I need to make a decision on say, which event to attend; I will very often create a detailed pro and con list and deliberate based on that.

My life is pretty darn organized.

I think it's telling that you drew that conclusion!

What's the motivation for the organisation? Si and Te seem linked with regards to organisation. However, while Te organises things into small groups or objectives, Si doesn't seem to do that. It sort of just...seperates things so that it's not one whole mass?

How would you end the follwing sentence:

It's important to organise things so that...

Alright, some background info: I work in a grocery store bakery (crappy college job) as you can imagine there is often many tasks going on at once.

I'm quite good at timing out my tasks and getting everything done before I have to leave, I keep myself pretty organized. I do this primarily by doing the same jobs the same way usually every time (sometimes I can't but i have a preference to organize myself the exact same way every time). Generally I am a good multitasker as long as I started everything myself. However lets say I come into work and a couple things are in the oven along with a couple different other random tasks needing completion: I will be so frustrated and lost and not sure whats going on, and I find it utterly irritating till I finish those initial tasks and start my own.

I'm very much a lone-wolf, I'm FAR more productive if my coworkers just leave me alone and don't touch my stuff. I do things in a certain way and I know how long it will take me to do each task. Given I am not interrupted too many times, I can guarantee my coworkers that we will be clocking out 5 minutes early ^.^

I prioritize. What is of greatest importance comes first. This is especially true on the job. It seems to be innate and usually it is correct. If not, I ask the boss, but these moments are rare.

Outside of the work environment, I am not so organized and I never write down the priorities. They are there and not forgotten, but on the job it is very stupid for someone else (the office manager, for example) to tell me what needs to be done, unless it is an entirely new part of the job.

I don't even know how I score as an ISTJ. Si and Te are always my highest scoring functions as well. I am totally unorganized. I wouldn't say organized mess either, I normally can't find things. The thing is, I know what I need to do to get organized, but the motivation is lacking. If it counts, every once in a while I reorganize my bookshelf. Also, lists are always helpful whenever I use them.

Hah, well I wouldn't consider a social or emotional situation to require organization as much as introspection! That is why I felt the need to clarify.

Perhaps Si, as a collection of detailed "memories" of previous experiences, is key to prioritizing tasks effectively. Your memory of how much effort/time it took to do something and the order in which these things had to be completed can be related across a variety of different tasks.

...things get done! Haha, I'm organized because that's how I process and use information most effectively.

I always keep everything really clean and organized, but I have a bit of OCD. I usually write down everything I need to do for the next day so that I don't forget, and I plan exactly how long it will take me and at what times I need to have it done. I'm fairly flexible about it though. C:

    @stephiphi

Si seems related to "getting things done", but why these things have to be done seems to differ between ISTJs and ISFJs.

ISTJs seem to do things because "they have to be done". I don't quite understand the ISTJ motivaation because, to me, they just do things without questioning their validity. For example, they'll spend loads of time completing a project at work that might be completely useless, but they still need to see it through because they feel it's expected of them.

With ISFJs, is it more the case that they feel the need to compete all these actions so that people don't feel let down, rather than an organisation or social structure (as with ISTJs)?

My curiousity stems from the fact that, as a Tert Si user, I'm aware things need to be done, but I don't always get around to doing them - lack of motivation at times. What is yourmotivation for doing all of these, at times, boring/thankless tasks?
