    Hello! Just Another ISFJ!

Hi all, I'm obviously new here! I found Personality Cafe when I was researching my ISFJ personality type, and figured it probably wouldn't hurt to join (I mean, I hope nobody from here attempts to attack me or anything ). Anyway, I'm currently in my second year of attending this small college in Pennsylvania, majoring in biology with a specialization in zoology. My main goal is to eventually open up a wildlife center for injured animals in the area that I live, since currently the only options are to a.) drive 2 hours to the nearest wildlife center or b.) shoot them. For some reason option b seems to be more prevalent.

Anyway, that's enough about me, I can't wait to fully delve into this forum! I'm certainly hoping to learn a lot about all of the different personality types while I'm here!

Where in Pennsylvannia? I used to live near Philly (in NJ, but still aha)

Also, zoology. Does that mean you can own cool animals like cheetahs and stuff? I knew this chick and she had a pet flying squirrel cause she was a zoologist and had a permit for them or something.

Good luck with your search within this site, and with your zoology degree.

    Thank you everyone!

@Darien Kirst, my schools maybe about an hour outside of Philly, as well! And I would have to guess we're maybe 30 minutes from the Jersey. And yeah, I probably will eventually get a permit like that as well where I can house wild animals! I'll probably rarely use it, though, because I don't particularly like taking animals away from their natural habitat unless they're injured or already dependent upon human support. I kind of think anyone can get access to those permits as long as they go through the paperwork and possible tests, but I'm not completely sure on that.

That's how she got her squirrel; it was attacked by a cat and had brain damage. It was totallly sweet and soo cute, but wouldn't survive in the wild so she had to feed him and keep him in a little home.

I don't know how laws work everywhere, but here in Cali, even ferrets are illegal. I know with falcons and other birds of prey there's a special falconry licence, but as far as flying squirrels go, I only know she was able to keep hers because she was a zoologist.

Although, with a lot of animals these days, their habitats are being taken over so much, captivity is becoming a safer option. I think I hear something a while back in Pennsylvannia where they were allowing a 'free for all' for hunters to plow down deers and other animals because joggers were threatened while they ran in parks. How a deer threatens anybody is beyond me...guess they're practicing for Bambi 2: The Revenge.

Aww, that was pretty sweet of her! I'm definitely glad she was able to help the squirrell out and help it survive! :)

Wow, here ferrets can be easily bought in pet stores. We do have a few birds that are illegal to own that are fine in other states, so there are a lot of differences per state. I do know of people who do have wildlife centers where they house raccoons, birds of prey, and even bobcats legally with permits, but those are also native animals to the state. It may be that only zoologists can house exotic animals, but, as I've said, I haven't put too much effort into looking yet. xD

I think the main thing with deer here is that they are largely overpopulated. Even if I do disagree with the killing of innocent animals, there does come a point where there population becomes so high that it becomes hard for them to get the resources that they need, and that's why hunting laws may be a little bit more lenient. There still are some laws to protect the younger deer, such as bucks needing at least 3 or 4 points, depending on the area, to be shot in order to allow for proper growth and reproduction among the deer population still. Plus I'm pretty sure hunters need to report back the statistics from their hunting trips. I'm sure this isn't always followed, but it's something at least. Pennsylvania is probably one of the more lenient states in hunting laws, though, which I don't particularly agree with all of the time.

A lot of that overpopulation problem is probably their natural predators dying off. If there were more animals (bears and such) to eat those deer, they wouldn't run rampant.
