    Hi, new ENTJ here!

Well hello everyone! Thought I should introduce myself as well.
My name is Laura, I'm an ENTJ and I am learning more about MBTI and how to type other people (since I really suck at that). I've known about the system for about a half a year now, so I do know the basics, luckily.
To start off, I was wondering what you guys use MBTI for? Just for entertaining purposes or for more serious things as well?
Thank you for taking the time to reply and I hope you have a great day!

HI! Its been helpful for me for self reflection and accepting somethings I really just saw as flaws. It has also helped tremendously in understand how to effectively communicate with other people whether in a relationship or friendship. If you understand the point of view of others it makes things work SO much better.

    Welcome @entj_laura
ImNathan has already given a good explanation for my motivation as well.

I would say that it helped me to see my place in this world (ENTPs don't have it easy hehe) and that every type/person has own strengths and weaknesses, so nobody is really better, even if they (without or with knowing of MBTI) are trying to persuade others of that. So, stay open and build your own opinion!

We will see us in the forum ^^

Thank you both for replying! So you would say it has mainly helped you in your personal life? I'm trying to figure out what kind of things I could do with it. Do you know if MBTI is a commonly used in companies, you know, to see if employees are doing the right job?

I think that would depend of your country. In germany it is nearly unknown, so nearly never used. But in the U.S.A. where it was developed it is used here and there in companies as I have read. So I would personally use it in private areas until I had the opportunity or motivation to use it in a job.

For example, a mentor, advisor, life coach, therapeut, etc could use it for more understanding of the individualistic needs of their "customers".

As I have read anywhere online, many companies or schools use it totally wrong, telling people they are better because their type is rare or more intelligent etc..

So MBTI is often misunderstood, and used without knowing about the 8 functions too.

    I hope that helped ^^

    Welcome.

MBTI for most is just entertainment or perhaps a different way of thinking of things. You'll find that some people take it a bit too seriously and try to make some ridiculous applications, there is also a fairly large bias against sensor types across the community unfortunately. I would hesitate to use typology in determining your career or something of that nature, it can't tell you everything about yourself. The key thing to remember is that these stereotypes are just suggestions, and they don't define everyone.

I'd say it has helped in my personal life, in many aspects, some of those may have created temporary turmoil :D. I've had a few friends take this test so I know why they are acting crazy sometimes. Like I mentioned before, when you know the other person in the manner of "why" its simpler to understand and love them for who they are, and in my experience redeeming.

Very true, don't take the test on a first date to ensure they are compatible with you
