I posted on this in the INFP forum, soliciting advice on how to deal; feel free to comment if you have any suggestions. But you're correct, the lack of jobs is astounding. I also suppose I'm putting the cart before the horse by assuming anyone would WANT to interview me even if there were a job available.

I find it especially hard to talk to other women about stuff, at least IRL, exactly because they either react with anger or condescension about things that weren't a big deal to me or that I made some kind of offhand remark about. I never talk about my life to other people (that's probably why I do it online), but then I get penalized for that because it means I'm "aloof"... which, when you're female, also apparently means that you think you're better than everyone.
I really think it's a no-win situation. I either share details about my life and opinions and get shit, or don't and get another kind of shit. It's more a choice of which sort of shit I want to take today.
Well, I don't have any experience with this kind of job search yet, but with summer shit jobs, I've slowly learned that the best way to go about an interview is to somehow convince yourself that you really don't care if you get the job or not and just treat the interviewer like a human being. It's a bit tough to do, and it requires a good chunk of doublethink, but it works. Same should work for academic jobs, I think.

Yup, exactly like that. I think it may, in this case, be a localized epiphenomenon related to being both female, and achieving, in a cultural milieu that has no place for, or can't conceive of, a woman who is ambitious beyond getting a decent job to supplement someone else's income. That's just the sense I get...
Re jobs: I love job interviews, honestly, I find them kind of fun. They only suck when you have no idea what they're looking for in a candidate, so you can't avoid their trick questions.

Yeah, exactly. Why do they care, tho? I will never understand.
It's not like I get angry because people who prefer to just watch the game don't want to tell me about their lives and be my best buddy. I can't imagine those types caring about people like me. But apparently...
