    Ti + Fe conflicts?

Today, I was on Facebook and saw someone post a status that was logically flawed in so many ways, that it practically made my head explode. But, the person who has posted this status has lost his brother in the last year, and I just feel bad for him. My Ti wants to berate him for using terrible logic, but my inferior Fe says I should leave him alone. Has anybody had similar conflicts with their functions?

Yes, plenty of times. Personality in situations like these I suppress my Ti and let my Fe dominate. I try to just let it go. Well, I don't know what he posted, that would change the situation a lot. It's tough but I usually weight it out by evaluating the need for logical consistently and its impact vs the need for social harmony and preserving the feelings of others. Trying to figure out the balance is tough and requires a bit of sacrifice from your part.

I see those kinds of statuses a lot, and I know the feeling. I just don't bother to comment on them. It just isn't worth it to me. I guess you could say that I let my Fe take over in those situations.

OP: All the time. If you're likely to hurt someone, do what your Fe says. If they're likely to understand you, go Ti. No point making people feel bad over things that don't matter... that is, unless you care for them deeply and don't want them to fuck up something important.

Why tiptoe? Everyone enjoys a good joke. Just make sure it's -y'know, good.

We all mesh logic and feeling to some extent. People have their reasons for formulating the thoughts they do, for having the desire to communicate them and for articulating their thoughts in a specific manner(even if it doesn’t always turn out as intended). Sometimes they lack the self awareness to fully express what it is they mean. Nine times out of ten we put things into words because we want to convince ourselves of something at an emotional level. Logic is largely secondary in most of the things we do.

If I don’t agree with or understand what a person is saying, but I feel that ambiguity is introduced due to emotional processing, I tend to overlook it and avoid conflict that will ultimately amount to nothing. In any case, life has shown me that I’m in no position to "correct” others, time generally tends to calm a person down as they frequently find their inductions failing and are forced to abstract further.

I choose to frequent this INTP sub forum because I have the impression we share similar concerns and priorities, that we’re speaking a similar language, but often when we communicate we’re only really ever talking to ourselves.

That's a pretty meta way to think of communications on the net, or hell, communication more generally.

He sounds like Jacques Lacan. It's all that Frenchie food...

What most people call "logic" has nothing to do with logic. It's just their commonsensical assessment of a situation stated as plainly as possible.

But common sense is often wrong, as teh physics has taught us...

I'm getting close to deleting my FB accounts. What's the point?

As long as you're not making fun of his dead brother i think you're safe. But what's the point arguing with people who can't do rationailty anyway? It's pushing a cow up an escalator, sisyphus style. You're not gonna change, in one well-crafted, witty comment, something that they've been practicing their whole lives. I suppose it depends on how close you are to the person and how comfortable you feel calling them out. How many 'likes' is his friendship worth to you? If you found yourself, even for a moment, considering that rhetorical question, i say go for it.
