The main problem is getting work. Look into the Boss's eyes without spooking him.

I am not sure but this I feel is part of the reason why I check my eye contact. Sometimes I feel like I am looking straight through someone, and when I notice this I will look away. I feel as if I am just staring a hole into them. Am I being to self aware?

I don't really make much eye contact myself. I don't even like looking at people in the street.

Apparently, I tend to be a bit unnerving when I look directly into someone's eyes.
"It looks like you're looking into my soul!" is a common response I get.

I only look into the eyes of people I don't like.

It's interesting you brought this up. I've been experiencing it for a while now. In the midst of a conversation, I suddenly become conscious of the intensity of my gaze. As soon as I feel that instant spark of awareness, I immediately look away, or play with a strand of hair. It's like some indefinable feeling both you and the interlocutor can sense, but refuse to acknowledge. Sometimes I continue on staring... but then I start focusing on the eye-contact more than the conversation itself. I find that being truly comfortable works best. Accepting that unacknowledged, tacit element.

I just don't do it because it's uncomfortable.

I tend to look straight into people's eyes, especially for things such as interviews. In American society, that's a sign of strength and confidence. However, there's a way to do it without intimidating the person. You just have to keep your expression soft. Smiling helps, too.

I tend to look right through people. It tends to creep them out.
