    Poetry

I have to ask. Do you like poetry?

Personally I can't read it and enjoy it, my mind is too jumpy to focus on each individual word.

So, my further question is, do you think poetry is more of a S thing?

EDIT: So I thought about my actual question some more. I've seen the INTP poetry thread, and it seems to include a lot of a different type of poetry than the type I am thinking of.

So perhaps my question is, do you think there is S-type and N-type poetry?

I tried this once...And found several of us actually write poetry. I was actually quite surprised.

Myself, I write when I'm depressed.

I like some poetry, but other poetry I just can't stand. I don't really know why that is, I guess it just depends. I don't go out of my way to read poetry ever though, so I guess I'd say it's just not my thing over all.

    LINK - INTPs and poetry.

If you're interested...An oxymoron since you don't actually like poetry.

I like poetry, I just have very specific tastes. I am a big fan of imagery based poetry, and melancholy/dark poetry. Which is why I am a huge fan of Poe, as most everyone knows (or can tell by my username).

Sad, bittersweet, nostalgic, dark, terror-filled...that's the stuff I'll read.

Used to write, but that was quite a long time ago when I was young and carefree and naive and exuberant and virile and stupid.

    Now I'm just stupid.

I write poetry more so than I seek it out to read. I write when I am either extremely happy, or tormented with pain. It's an emotional thing for me. Writing for me is an outlet. It's a way to release that which I do not understand. However, most of my writings do not fit into anything traditional, and can hardly be called poetry. It can range from a single sentence, to a paragraph, to a short novel if you will. It depends on how emotionally confused and fucked up I happen to be at the time. Below is an example of my work, when I was in a very dark place:

The land is waiting, longing. Indecisive in it’s action. Not knowing whether to stand and fight, or be quick to flee. It makes me uneasy. The skies are gray, and the rain and hail are beating the trees relentlessly. Trees heave fro as though they are going to just lay down and forfeit this fight, but they stand back up, debating. The thunder is adding to the ambiance of this battlefield, with the lightening never missing an opportunity to backlight this war. The wind is blowing the hail, and the rain, right into my face as I hide in this burrow. My clothes are sodden with water and dirt, and cling to me like wet paper. It’s so cold here. I can smell the dank, moldy earth under my nose. I can feel it on my skin. In my hair. There is no escape. I have a white knuckle grip on my rifle. I’m not even sure that it would fire if I pulled the trigger. It’s just as soaked as I am. If he comes here, if he finds me, I’m sure that I’m dead. I’m scared to death. Wide eyed and driven solely by fear, I peer out of my little hole in the earth. Watching. Waiting. Shaking.

It's ramblings of me. It's a giant metaphor for how I was feeling at the time. Metaphors are my way of explaining things to myself that deal with feelings and emotions that I cannot understand. It wasn't written to ever be presented for reading, and why I have decided to share something so personal, is odd. But I have.

I see how I feel inside of my head, rather than feeling how I feel, I suppose. It's an image that I create to express how I feel, but I am far from an artist. It's a picture made of words. One would need an impressive imagination such as my own, to fully understand this passage, and how I felt when I wrote it.

But to answer your question, I think that N types write "poetry" in a less traditional form. It's random connections and patterns that make sense usually only to the person who has written it. S types I could see as writing something that makes more traditional sense. It would be more like a, b, c, d, e, coming from a sensor. Easier to follow than N types, which are like a, z, k, 4, 819, i, w, b, 49, red, c. I connect the dots that matter to me, and fuck anyone else who is trying to follow. They can build their own path, and I don't care if they can ever follow the path I've drawn.

    Kudo's though if you can.

I rarely read poetry unless it's required for school (It's difficult to find poetry I like), but I like to write it occasionally.
