strong emotions: do you feel it sometimes? can it shape you?

I have always been curious (as an INFP myself) about other personality Types, and to understand them,
so here's among the most important question that lingers on my mind recently:

As an INTP, do you/can you sometimes feel such a "strong" emotions,
whether it's from your own personal experiences, or through some interactions or relationship with other people, or even nature & animals, exchange of ideas, thoughts, arts, etc etc,..but basically, so strong is the emotions, that it did can shape your life, even sort of 'changing' yourself, whether it's to become a sort of 'better' person, or into a 'worse, darker' person?

I know that being a "T" especially doesn't mean that they don't have or feel emotions,
just like how being an "F" doesn't mean that they can't think/use their brain,
..but here I am just curious to hear (& sort of getting 'confirmed') from the REAL source itself, which is you guys, as an INTP.

    so please share your thoughts

I was having a discussion with a friend last night about this. (The topic was mushrooms, actually)

I rarely experience strong emotions about anything, and he was telling me how mushrooms or other drugs that effect people emotionally might be dangerous for me, since I'm not prepared to deal with things other than rationally. I have always avoided drugs because I don't like the thought of my orderly systems of processing information being disrupted.

I deal with the world consciously, everything is understood. I don't have strong attachments to things. It's frightening to me to think I might hold onto a thought or idea because of an irrational feeling about it, rather than on its own merrits.

I experience intense emotions on a regular basis, especially when immersed in the arts. However, I have trouble understanding and articulating them, and I am definitely reluctant to share them with others. The idea of using emotion as my primary means to navigate the world is a pretty uncomfortable one as Ecky said. I do not trust my feelings overall you might say.

My emotions are usually the result of my thoughts. Because of this, I've wound up thinking myself into some pretty bad states of mind before, but it also means that I find happiness and appreciation in small, simple things that most people miss. To put it simply, I wind up talking myself into, or out of, almost everything I feel. The intensity of the feeling depends directly on the intensity of the thought. Combine that with the fact that I'm horrible at coming to conclusions (yay P!), and things get interesting very quickly. The only lasting exception to this has been music. It's really the only thing that lets me feel certain emotions without thinking about them first, and I'm extremely grateful for that. Saying that I use it to my advantage, would be the understatement of the year.

I don't allow myself to drink excessively for precisely the same reason.

I feel a lot of emotion but it's usually sort of depressive melancholia. I like it though because it fills me with inspiration and a feeling of mysteriousness and awe of the world. Very ocasionally I receive huge bursts of excitement and get a bit manic and annoying. With regards to love... I think it is something that builds very gradually with me. All of my emotion is gradual... but it can be dramatic. If i'm down then i'm down for weeks and if I'm up then I'm up for days/weeks. I'm kind of a serious person. Emotions are breathtaking and important to me.

    mind altering substances, definitely.

but there are other easier, much less expensive methods involved.
    a) reading. It can make me dark and broody [think catcher in the rye, mice and men, Dubliners, notes from underground]. I had to stop reading crime and punishment halfway through because it started affecting me in a really, really bad way. Result of me putting myself in the proverbial shoes of the character.
    b) movies. Oscillates between complete mindfudge mode and complete euphoria mode [mindfudge - think irreversible, taxi driver. euphoria - think wickerman, one flew over the cuckoo's nest]
    c) muzac. Just like above. Either makes me reflective and open. Think floyd(of the pink sort), ozric tentacles, shocking blue, opeth] euphoria = martha and the vandellas, james brown, king crimson.
    ---------------EOF.

yes, I feel strong emotions, but I am not sure if I can say that they shaped my life or changed who I am. at least, I wouldn't phrase it in those ways. maybe I would say that a strong emotion (resulting from music or nature, most likely) influenced how I see the world or the universe or my fellow humans. something like that. most likely I wouldn't talk about it even if it did, so I don't know how to phrase it.

INTP's thinking themselves into emotions is an interesting concept that I never really considered before. I find it's true for me; I am also capable of thinking myself into some pretty interesting states, and I often feel a deep appreciation for subtle or simple things.
