Do other INTPs do this, or is it just me?

I consider myself quite a slow reader, but not because I have trouble with words, but because how often I daydream while reading.

Quite often while reading, I 'll suddenly stop and stare into a space, lost in thought, brought on by something I've just read. I don't even realise I'm doing it, then I suddenly think "... oh yeah, I was reading".

I don't mind too much, but it is just slightly annoying because I could get through books a lot faster if I didn't. My ISTP cousin can get through books much faster; when he reads, he starts and doesn't stop until he has decided to stop reading.

So is it an INTP thing, an NT thing, or is it just me?

Definitely me man. Check if you have an high IQ or ADD bro. If non of that then idk man we are all screwed. Because if we are tested with that they give us time to finish test. I couldnt pass the FCAT (florida test) until 12th grade man in high school. Teacher said i was over thinking the problems (getting too deep).

My friend is an INTJ and he does the same thing.

Yeap, I do this too, it's a curse and a blessing! Like everything else about INTP nature.

    The FCAT sucks.
Aced the Reading, failed the Math everytime I took it.
    Still got my Diploma, though.

Anyways, I tend to lose focus on what I'm reading and go back over a single sentence a bunch of times.
I guess if it's uninteresting to me I tend to lose focus until I notice and read through it.

I used to have an issue with this when I was really young, but I somehow learned, or trained myself, that instead of just letting my imagination run wild, i started to control it, and shape it into the context of what I was reading.

I am now an adult 25 years of age and I still read, a lot, but now what ever I am reading plays out in my head like a movie. I visualize the story with my imagination and create an entire 3D world of it inside of my head while I'm unfolding the story sentence by sentence. It's all done in such painstaking detail inside of my head, that I marvel at the capabilities of the human brain. It's an ability I have that I take pride in. It's so pretty sometimes I wish I could share what I've created up there.

It's the only way I can focus on a book long enough to read it. I've done it for so long that now it just comes naturally, I can't read anything without visualizing it inside my head while I'm reading. It keeps my random thoughts in a straight line, and gives my brain something to do while I'm reading.

Well I actually read the words in books the books fast . But I'm a slow reader I stop and day dream too. Or I take long to finish reading the book I keep forgetting or things keep coming up. It can take me 2 months to finish to book I could read 5 chapters and not go back to it for like a month later. If its a really good book I read much faster I still end up day dreaming

I once spent a month not realizing that I was rereading the same - particularly boring - section of Oliver Twist every time I opened the book, since my mind was in a zillion other places at once at the same time. Have never picked up Oliver Twist again.

I read and read but eventually I'll stumble across something that just gets this chain of thoughts going in my head. I'll space out on one thought as I continue to inattentively scan the words and soon I'll realize that i just read half of a chapter and don't even know what I read. When I smoke pot I can't do anything without spacing out (games, socializing, reading, getting dressed), but I have some of the most entertaining thoughts I can ever experience.

Doesn't really happen to me. I can somehow continue reading while I daydream... almost as if my eyes are seeing the words, and my mind's eye sees the interpretation. I can be completely unaware of my senses while reading, yet still turning pages and absorbing.

No. Don't. It's several days of time you'll never get back again. I can sincerely say that Oliver Twist is the most boring book I've ever read.

Anyway, I can read for hours without letting anything distract me, but with my genre I'm not looking for anything taxing, it's escapism. Occasionally, you'll get a crime writer who is more philosophical and/or psychological (e.g. Brookmyre) and I find myself arguing with him (out loud) and then working through his argument in my head, making another argument...

...and find 2 hours later that I'm still on that same page.
