I don't get the INTP + ENTJ = good match logic that is put out on several websites. Maybe it's good for the ENTJs, but they seem very controlling and we hate being controlled. It seems like a disaster

The logic (if you want to call it that) makes sense to me. Look at the ENTJ's functions: Te-Ni-Se-Fi. We are their introverted cousins. I get along fine with every ENTJ I know and am time and time again a second voice for them, as they are for me. I think people generally have the wrong idea about their "need" for power and control. They value exactly what we do--intelligence, competence, and sincerity, only they're lead by extraverted thinking. Thus, they prefer results in the real world. The most understanding and comforting person in my life is an ENTJ. I hate the monster stereotype they carry (but of course any person can be a monster).

I understand it functionality, maybe I just stereotype them as amoral control freaks. with a my-way-or-the-highway attitude

I'd classify that ENTJ archetype as unhealthy. If anything, I find ENTJ's to be the most moral beings on the planet. I can only speak from the ones I know and the ones I read about.

EDIT: To any of those unhealthy control freak ENTJ's reading this: I am not a suck-up for you guys.

Oh sure - I get on OK with ENTJs. In fact, their random rants have me in fits for their incredible audacity and complete lack of comprehension of any feelings that may be hurt. But I wouldn't want to marry one.

I always thought an INTP and INTJ would get along well, though the odds of them meeting by chance seems low.

I've never met an INTP female, but I was great friends with a male INTP. We discussed theories exclusively.

I have two INTJ friends in real life. I wouldn't date either one of them. Too "by the book" for my taste.

I vote for ENTJ (since I'm in a pretty darn good relationship with one right now). We seem to be similar where it really matters (interest-wise, emotional needs, sense of humor, etc.), and different in ways that provide a great balance. Yes, the over-excessive J thing can drive me nuts sometimes, but I have come to the reluctant conclusion that I probably need SOME sort of structure in my life.

I guess the trick is to catch a healthy, well-formed ENTJ. Cus the unhealthy ones can be quite horrendous and unbearable.
