When people say "Call me later." when I have indicated no particular need to speak with them.

a) do not like talking on the phone (and this is known)
b) do not like people telling me what to do
c) do not like people telling me to do things I do not like to do.
d) do not like conversations (especially over the phone) that do not have purpose
e) do not like people wasting my time when I could be reading or working or doing something else.

They don't typically expect you to. This is just something people often say when closing a conversation so they don't feel like they are coming off as ending things abruptly. Its a way of giving you a way to continue the conversation more if you desire to do so. Not calling is perfectly acceptable if you have nothing further to say.

No, in this circumstance the call was desired and expected. Most of my friends will say things like "talk to you later" or ask if they can call me or if I can call them. I don't mind as long as we have something in mind to discuss. It doesn't even have to be important, it just has to have a purpose.

This was deliberate -- and, I should add, not intended to piss me off -- and simply ignored my particular communication preferences. It was one of those "let's chat on the phone so I can hear the sound of your voice and feel comforted by that" sorts of things. Which is what I hate.

Hey, I like Saw! Not for the gore, though. I like Jigsaw and the clever "games" he devises. I got my gore fix for life when I watched Cannibal Holocaust and Men Behind the Sun.
