    Socially Awkward Moments

Sorry if this thread has been done to death, I searched and didn't see it (if there is another just tell me). What are some of your most socially awkward moments? This is purely for fun, seeing as how most INTPs are kinda socially retarded .

What comes to mind for me was this time while I was in beauty school and had a really bad cold. Because I was sick, I was more out of it than usual...anyways, I was walking from the bathrooms and this girl stopped me and said "Hey! You take the same bus as me in the mornings!" to which I replied "Uhhhhh....yeah.." then turned around and walked away in the opposite direction. Halfway to my work station I realize that was a bit rude, so I went back and interupted the conversation that she was now in the middle of with somebody else by saying "Ummm...sorry..that was rude...I'm just uhhh, really tired" then, before she could answer, I walked away again. Talk about socially inept

Definitely not my most social awkward moment, but it was kind of amusing. I was in Germany with a group of 7, not including myself, people that I didn't know, besides my teacher, and we were having dinner the day before we were going to go home. I was just sitting at the table waiting on my food when the girl across from me tried to start a conversation with me. I'm almost certain she was an ESFJ.
Her: "So, What are you thinking about?"
    Me: "That I'm tired..."
    Her: "Anything else?"
    Me: "Nope.."
    After they brought our food
Her: "So how does that potato soup compare to the others?" (Because I basically lived off of soup while I was in Germany)
    Me: "Better.."
Everyone just started laughing because of how socially inept I was that night. For some reason it never even registered with me that she was trying to make conversation. I blame it on the exhaustion.

the only thing that comes to mind is in high school, the metal spiral from my notebooks would sometimes hook onto a girl passing by in the opposite direction.

This happened when I was in high school. I was eating lunch with one of my friends and some girl, whom I did not know, came over. She sat in front of me and asked me my name. I sorta looked at her funny and feebly answered her query. I then pretended that she didn't exist and told me friend that I had something important to do. I got up and left her sitting there To make things worse she continued to eyeball me for a year after that and I actually developed a crush. It was so ridiculous.

Another example of my exceptional social skills wasn't embarrassing but very stupid nonetheless. It was my first day working at the grocery store and I was the trash boy. I collected the trash from the departments. Anyway, two of the girls working in the bakery asked me if I was "antisocial" because "I looked it". I suppose they were angered that I haden't yet introduced myself to them. I answered like this; "Yeah, probably. Will that be a problem?". Wtf was I thinking? I can't help but smile when I recall that.

Disclaimer: My social skills are much better now, thank goodness. They are far from the norm though

I remember one time when I was in high school American History class; we were supposed to be scouring magazines for current events. The girl in front of me turned around with a Time magazine in hand. This was near the end of the year and she had flirted with me the whole year, I guess she figured this was her last shot. Being too shy at the time I never acted on it. She was very hot and that just made my timidity worse. She pointed to two words in an article she was reading and asked what they meant. The two words were cunnilingus and fellatio. I remember turning red and mumbling something stupid. I'm pretty sure she knew what the words meant

ROFL! "it's hard to explain, I would need to demonstrate". Who am I kidding? I probably would have played dumb, or made something up.

I don't even think I knew the formal terms for that in high school

I'm in High-School so it happens all the time.

I remember last year this girl wanted help with her essay (strange I'm not good with essays I just use fancy words, and the guy next to her was an amazing essayist). Eventually she asked me "Why are you so smart?", to which I replied "There is no such thing as smart people, some are just oblivious." -Then I gave her a stern look, not realizing that made it look like I was referring her as an oblivious person.

Sometimes in math I may not want to finish my question because everyone else is holding theirs' up.
So I draw some cartoons, usually someone always says "Are you in art?" or "How do you do that?"

I blush then I say this mumbling and in a raspy voice (everytime)

    "I just like to doodle"

As I immediately erase my drawing.

I did that to myself a lot.

I probably freak people out because I don't like making eye contact... but I feel like if I were to look them straight in the eye, I'd come off as even stranger...

    At the high school formal
Her: Oh my god, I love your dress! The colour really suits you!
Me: Thanks! I like yours too. It's, um...
(Internal dialogue: it suits her? No, she just said that to you, it'll sound like you're taking the piss. Nice colour? Not only did she say that to you, but you've already said that to at least four different people tonight, you can't just go around saying the same compliment to everyone. Good things about dresses, good things about dresses... damn, what are some good things about dresses? Cut? No, only people who are actually in the fashion business can talk about 'cut' without sounding like twits. Size? No, always gets misconstrued as a fat jibe. That decorative thingy on the front? You don't even know what it's called! Damn, she obviously realises by now that you're struggling to come up with something...)
Me: I have no more compliments left!
    Her: ...Ooookay.

I honestly did like the dress.
Malebranche, Zic, vicki7172 and 7 others thanked this post.
