    Mental Health Disorders

Is anyone else puzzled by how horribly people with mental illness are treated? By psychiatrists, counselors, hospitals, etc.? Is anyone else baffled by the stigma associated with mental illness? The stigma associated with rape? Why should someone who is suffering be given even more reasons to suffer? Does anyone else agree that many mental health disorders are a direct result of abuse? Is this link being intentionally overlooked? Is it being overlooked because assuming almost every mental health disorder to be biologically based means treating these disorders with medications which supports the drug companies? If the link between abuse and mental health disorders was not overlooked, psychotherapy or counseling could be seen as a valid form of treatment without prescribing
medication. What could this type of honesty do to the poor little drug companies?

i'm sure the drug and insurance companies are all in bed together. a dirty dirty bed.

i do tend to think stigmatization of mood disorders, for one, is total bullshit because things like depression and bipolarity seem like extreme versions of what most everyone already experiences, so it seems ridiculous to ostracize people who suffer from them. things like schizophrenia are in a totally different vein but equally if not more serious, and the treatment of people with them seems dehumanizing. i'm mostly incredulous about what sorts of afflictions even get legitimized by a syndrome. every time i see a restless leg commercial i get an urge to heave rocks at the television. people just seem to have a serious label obsession.

i think i do see a movement (however small or gradual) though toward more holistic treatment methods and, for psychological issues, things like cognitive behavioural therapy, etc., probably because people are disillusioned by the whole corrupt system and what you've just described.

Oh I think it's all terrible, and a lot of mental disorders are a genetic thing. I should know, I have some.

I guess some are a genetic thing, but I think some are not at all. Apathy and greed lead to over-prescribing meds. I am not against prescribing certain meds when they are helpful or necessary, but I am against prescribing them unnecessarily and misleading people to believe it is their only treatment option!

My mother is also an INFJ, and a really beautiful, intelligent, and amazing human being! She's my best friend!
