How do you guys dress? I've read that INTPs don't care about their appearance, and that they tend to dress inappropriately for certain situations.
In my case I like to look good. I don't follow fashion trends though, and for the most part I tend to avoid them. A few years ago I bought a members only jacket because I thought it was cool. Since then they've apparently come back into style, so I stopped wearing it.
I like to be seen as different, but not in the sense that I'm trying to be different at all costs. In middle school I didn't care, I was fat and wore shorts and a t-shirt. In HS I started dressing nicer. I wore slacks all the time, with a button up or polo shirt tucked in. I also sometimes wore a tweed sportcoat I found at the goodwill ($12!!!). I always wore my navy blue vans. Girls liked it, I looked good, and life was great.
In college I started dressing more mainstream, mainly because my school is more judgmental than most. I just started wearing jeans a year ago after a 6 year hiatus. I still prefer buttonups and polos to tees, but I force myself to wear t-shirts more often now ( and I no longer tuck them in). My vans are for special occasions now, since in my opinion they clash with the bluejeans.
Things I like:
Jackets- an essential for me, I don't really know why. I have a leather members only (not the classic pattern, but something I've never seen anywhere else, so i still wear it), a green tweed jacket, and a green tweed sportcoat. I alternate between the tweed jacket and the leather members only.
Slacks- wear them less now but I like how they are comfortable.
Buttonup oxford shirts- light blue is my favorite. I like to roll the sleeves.
classic vans- duhhhhhh
Retro- I love finding retro stuff in my grandpa's closet or at thrift stores. My overall style is very clasic, I found this red-purple knit rayon 70's polo with a huge collar at my grandpa's house. its my favorite shirt of all time, only for special occasions.
parted hair- was longer in HS but now I have to do a military style part. Both are good in my book.
Things I hate:
Dressing in warm weather- I have a lot of trouble doing this. Being from socal, a polo and slacks is my summer attire, but i learned the hard way not to wear this to the beach.
Trendy stuff- I'll even avoid things I liked previously just because they're back in style. Remember that episode of Doug?
skate shoes- nope
long hair- on guys, of course
spiked hair- lame, even though its out of style (i think) I would never do this
girls jeans on guys- I don't understand this at all.
In general I care greatly about my appearance but have trouble with overdressing.
