Do you read threads before responding?

I was wondering if any of you feel the same compulsion on forums as I do, which is the urge to read every response to a thread before responding. I feel that if I haven't read every response, whatever I say might not be offering anything new or interesting, and therefore it would be pretty useless for me to respond. If I have no insight to bring to the discussion, why bother? Therefore, unless the topic seems sufficiently engaging, I won't even bother entering threads with more than five pages of responses simply because it's too much effort for me to even go about reading them.

    Anyone else share this?

    I'm like that too!
I feel like if I don't read everything, then I'll basically repeat what someone else has sad and that would be embarrassing.

I do, especially if I want to make some sort of witticism about the thread.
    I dislike redundancy.

No, I just read the subject and proceed to roll my face on the keyboard.

I completely understand what you mean, and like you this compulsion often discourages me from participating in threads that already have pages and pages of responses. The only time this isn't the case is when the thread is a sticky that has several dozen pages of responses - then I feel confident reading only the most recent responses before posting.

    So, what's this thread about?

It depends how excited I am about my answer... XD If I'm already mentally writing my response, I usually do it right away, but if I'm not that excited about it, I will usually scan the first couple of pages and make sure I'm not being annoying and redundant which I sometimes accidentally am. O.O

If there's a page or two I'll read first. If there's more and I really wanna say something I'll just dive in ... then read the thread ... then normally find that what I've said has not only already been mentioned, but retorted and counter retorted too!
