    Music Discussion: INTP music

This is a thread for discussing INTP music tastes. You can post a link to a song to support your argument/to help understand this, but not to drop links likr 'what I'm listening to' because there's another thread for that. Anyone can voice what they think about any posted song and how it fits into the conversation in a forward moving, objective and helpful manner and to have fun while doin so. Post one song at a time for clutter reasons

    I'll start:

I don't know what would be considered INTP music but bein so I am pretty far down the rabbit hole as far as prog music goes so I'll begin with that.

For informational purposes Prog (progressive) is music that alternates or changes, the songs are often 7 minutes or more and some examples can last 30+minutes for the long haul (but will post shorter examples.) Perhaps the undulating and curious music form feeds the INTP curiosity.
    Feel free to skip around

    Some arguments I will raise:
    1. Music with undulating change is desirable over chord/refrain and other schemes?
    2. Songs are more or less interesting when they involve love and courtship?

Feel free to raise arguments as you go

I listen to a lot of classic rock, blues, and instrumental. Some chant. I've started listening to prog rock because of this board and I like it.

    With regard to:

    1) Depends on my mood.
    2) Depends on the music.

I am way too tired to youtube search for examples, sorry.

I'm really into everything. There's good stuff buried in even the genres that don't appeal to me much.

But there's some music that screams INTP to me, in that stereotypical way. Like Aphex Twin.

I tend to find a song I like and listen to it over and over again, it can be pretty much any genre.

But this kind of music is usually always a solid hit for me.

@hela That's A-ok hela, and glad you liked the prog ^^

@nadjasix yeah, I feel there are times I will find a nugget in some genre I didn't much care for. Pretty moody piece, it has some nice flow to it. Does Aphex do a lot of songs like that? I've heard of them but never sampled it.

@tangosthenes That's a pretty cool sound, that is something I could get used to. I enjoy flats and sharps and grinding sounds/slight dissonance

I like everything from the Delta Blues to death metal. All music is fine with me, as long as there's some talent evident somewhere.

Radiohead got me into Aphex Twin a little bit. I wish I could be cool and say it was the other way around but that would be a lie.

So it is so far a vein of broad music genres or with some focus in alternating calm music with some repetition which seems to be popular with INTP

Looking at my I-Tunes playlist - which is expanding.
Bands I have most represented - Arcade Fire (whole catalogue), Aimee Mann, Beck, The Band, Bob Dylan (most of his entire collection), Broken Bells/The Shins, Coldplay, Talking Heads/David Byrne/Brian Eno, The Killers, Neil Young, Muse, Pearl Jam (whole catalogue), Radiohead (whole catalogue), REM (ditto), Chili Peppers, The Smiths, Tom Petty, Travis, The Verve (Richard Ashcroft), and tons of random classical.
Pretty main stream for the most part - but I've definitely branched out the past few years.
Can't listen to rap or country

I suppose it's common for INTPs to like Radiohead.

Yeah, I like me a lot o' Radiohead.

Also, I loved Thom Yorke's solo album.

    Other artists:

Delta Spirit, The Shins, Galaxy 500, The Sea and Cake, Dntel, (checks facebook...), Elliott Smith (was obsessed for a long time), Voxtrot, The Mountain Goats, etc...

    And more recently, Dream Theater.

I think Radiohead might fit me the best, however -- specifically their In Rainbows stuff.
