    Job Satisfaction w/o College?

Do any of you have jobs that you enjoy, even though you did not earn a four year degree?

I know many people say college is useless, but I've had a plan. I want to go abroad and teach English. To do this, I have to have a college degree (as far as I can tell). If my financial aid situation doesn't get figured out, this may not be possible.

    Thoughts?

The only people I know who are doing well without college degrees have highly specialized technical skills or know the right people and have networked into good private sector or public sector jobs.

    Some Options:
    Peace Corps for overseas experience
    Military for the GI Bill
Community College for two years and then go to a private college for two years to cut down on your total tuition costs
State schools (again you can transfer to a private school after two years if that's what you want)
Pile on more loans and/or work and then stick it out with your current school

Why would you go to a private college? State schools often cost as much as private colleges. Not to mention, many public universities are actually better than the majority of private universities.

Generally, the thought is (if you want to make school "cheaper" in general):
Community college for basics - > four year college to finish a BA or BS.

l am lucky enough to fall into the bracket of being poor enough to have it all piad for.

*shrug* "Anything is possible"...as far as having a successful career without a degree goes but most of the people who say this have no real ambition.

l have known a few who made it into 6 figures with no degree but these types were destined for success in the first place, always the first to be promoted at any job at a young age, etc.

Education is overrated. Especially in the US.
The whole system is just wrong (everywhere) and doesn't make sense. Paying schools to learn stuff and then go work for someone else. Money has become the no1 motive for everything on this planet and this pisses me off. I dropped out of university and I wanna do something different, something for myself. And still, I'm more educated than most people I know that actually finished university. And I think I'm happier too. I just hate the system and despise any mainstream carreer. I don't care if I never have any money.

This is not addressed to any of you, I'm just whining.

I work in a brewery, which is not as awesome as it sounds. It's a lot of heavy lifting, late nights and sore body parts. I make 11 dollars an hour, because I am 18 and it's a starting position that requires no skills.

I am generally content with my job, because the people I work with are cool.

Isn't it sad when you come to this conclusion?

For me I don't see a lot of options left once you realize how stupid money is. Or maybe I'm still in the process of opening my eyes, and I'll see a viable path eventually. As of now though, it seems like I'm kind of stuck playing by a lot of societies rules. Please enlighten me if you have an opinion.

The more money you accumulate, the less likely you are to have to oblige to society's rules. Wealth is freedom. It certainly isn't stupid.

You say wealth is freedom. If you already have it, cool. Otherwise, at what point do you stop working your ass off(by obliging to society's rules) so you can enjoy the freedom of your wealth?

Once you realize how stupid money is, your options aren't narrowed, they're widened. And no it is not sad when you come to this conclusion. It's actually liberating. You can do your own thing. For god's sake, nowadays nobody has a personality. It's all bleached away by standardized paths, socially acceptable lifestyles, and factory mass production. Schools are just factories now, they're not temples of knowledge. If you want knowledge you can read your own books. Be a person of your own.
I like your way of thinking, and I believe you will soon come to the right conclusion yourself.

I agree, more or less, with both of these views. I haven't the balls enough to walk away from it all and make my own life. For now I have resigned myself to living quietly between the lines of creature comforts and paychecks.

I met a guy recently, who I believe to be an INTP, who has been bumming around the west coast, train hopping and whatnot, for the last six years. He's just 25. I admire his free lifestyle, but I am afraid of the struggles he surely has to get through regularly. He is staying with a friend of mine until further notice.

What I worry is that someday, if he were to want to acclimate himself into the "job world" and have a steady paycheck, he'd not have the credibility.

I am worried about closing doors for myself.

But otherwise I do view this money-making life as... a bore, a form of enslavement, a shallow lifestyle (in terms of experience), meaningless...

But, that might be because I don't have any money. :p

Really though, I've felt this way for years. I have often said that I hate money. Most days I really feel that way. But I would love to have some right now. I hate how the lack of it can literally kill you.

Our health should not rely on how much capital we are lucky enough to acquire and maintain.

I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR FOOD AND WATER.

    WHAT THE FUCK.

    I'm sorry.

The reality is... I do have to pay to live...

    Fuck it.
