    friendly* jesus i can't spell...

I'm curious as to how other INTP's have been responding to the contemporary trend of "ecological responsibility".

I love nature (cosmos as a whole, not just talking Earth here), but I'm too skeptical to jump on the bandwagon for many reasons.

Nope. As of yet, it is a huge marketing technique. Eco-friendly cars, eco-friendly toasters, eco-friendly dildos.

The only thing I like the idea of is the 50mpg that comes along with a hybrid car.

Main reason I try to not partake in this. I'm also sick of the self righteous recycle warriors.

Well, I don't know. There's the label of "I'm better than you" around it, but the actual products and methods are in their fledgling state. And this is exploited.
If more people bought goods that were actually eco-friendly, of course companies would have more incentive to create better and more efficient technology. As it is right now, it's limping along, and that's not helping people get into it.

In the end, it probably won't die, and end up much better off than where it is meow.

"Buying" your way out of ecological responsibility through purchases of eco friendly vehicle is obviously not the solution to the problem. Corporations are just exploiting people's incapably to think by shoving new products down our throats. One could argue that if you buy a eco friendly car you are doing a small bit to preserve the environment. But I believe that whatever 15% extra you paid for that car is probably going to fund something destructive to the environment anyway. Again, it's just a tool to make people feel righteous and good, not a means to solving a problem. The public does not understand economic equilibriums enough to know that you can't force everyone to "do their small part" and make a goal happen if there is no strong incentive to do so. As of right now, there is not incentive to preserve the environment. The solution to this problem has to emerge through a super strong incentive that makes most of the population change their attitudes about preserving the environment. Well if the BP oil spoil can't even move the public into that direction, then the incentive must be catastrophically damaging.

I accept all the measures that are trying to be implemented into society now and have always grown up recycling much more than the average person. Yeah, I'm one of those people who asked to have two recycle bins instead of one to fill every week when I moved into a new house.

It kind of makes me shrug at the fact that it is "limping along" and yes, companies will keep at their current state because that's where the money is. What kind of change should we take responsibility for? We see it all happening before our eyes, and the majority is looking for someone to follow... but there is no one out there yet with the clear path of where to go with it. Until that time though, the world will be stuck on its crutches with a leg that is festering. Most of us are probably just inactive towards taking any responsibility because it won't affect us in our lifetimes.

Enjoy life as we see it now, it's short and who exactly wants to act like the bigger man and take "responsibility" for such petty things that will be years down the road. I doubt things will change and the economy will maybe show us the direction we will take when it does start being affected.

a lot of "eco-friendly" products aren't so eco friendly. Or they may help one environmental problem while creating new ones.

A good example are the 'compact fluorescent bulbs'. Sure they use much less power, but don't break one, it's toxic!

Even things such as paper and plastic don't have unlimited recycling capability; I think that the import of this whole issue will get bigger, and as it does, we will probably crash and burn.

You can always say hey, this is hopeless right now, let the future take care of it.

What happens down the line when people are still buying the same processed goods, saying the exact same thing that you are even when the problem is actually in front of their face? It will probably be an adaption instead of control strategy if it's up to the economy.

Look at what happened during the Industrial Revolution, times changed and life got worse for many, many, many people, and we are still feeling those effects in America today- we pray to the god of profit, and that will probably always dictate where we go as a society.

To actually preserve the standard of living we have now, without too much permanent damage to our mental health, we may have to rely on our government or a supranational entity to keep us from being fish in a barrel once again. At least in the countries which will be most affected by the changes from global warming that are expected in the next century.

But, what you're saying is true. It probably won't happen, and the economy will keep being deified.
