Do you "shut down" when you are interrupted?

One of my pet peeves is being interrupted when I'm talking, mainly if I'm talking about something important or sharing my heart. I don't mind it so much if I'm joking around with someone. However, if my SO, family member or close friend does this, I tend to stop talking, shut down, and end the conversation. I'll even continue with the shutting down despite their protest. Sometimes a kind ENFP or some other type can somehow stop the shut down and draw me back into conversation. I am wondering if this is just a quirk of mine stemming from some sort of childhood thing or if other INTJ's experience the same dynamic???

I generally shut down, with one exception. If I'm speaking a long enough sentence to where it's possible to be interrupted, then the subject matter is something I'm passionate about and an interruption turns me off, so to speak, from pursuing further conversation about it with that person. The exception is when I'm speaking with somebody who is just as familiar with and passionate about the subject at hand. The interruption will still be mildly annoying at best, but they may have a new or exciting idea to offer, so I go with it.

Also, this is my first post and on the day that I found out I'm an INTJ. So many things in life make a lot more sense because of it!

My INTJ husband would shut down if he was interrupted also and this is why. When he has something that is well thought out, and finally gets the opportunity to say it, he wants to say it all without any interruptions. If someone rudely interrupts him, it pisses him off, the moment is lost, he won't repeat himself or start over either. It could be you both have the same quirk and may not be related with INTJ

Hmmm, but, that's exactly how I feel too. INTJ's hate repeating ourselves and an interruption really would force us to repeat ourselves.
I actually recently ended a dating relationship with an ENTJ guy mainly because he constantly interrupted me.
Anyway, with your husband and I both feeling the same way and both being INTJ's, I am wondering if it is more related to type. However, only one response is hardly enough "evidence". lol

We have 2 other INTJ male friends, it would be safe to say they would feel the same way, i have witnessed it with all 3. Maybe it is an INTJ quirk. You know from my experience with my husband and friends, they will spend a great deal of thought before they speak, so if they can finally get a chance to say something about related topic, let them talk, simple ;) Sometimes the topic changes really quickly without them getting the opportunity to get a word in ( again related to thinking before speaking )...us ENFP will generally speak before we think, so the topic can move really fast....INTJ need time to ponder over thoughts first...that's my experience with communication and INTJ.

I'm the same way. If I'm saying something, it means that I actually have something to say. If you don't want to listen, I just won't say it. Why should I waste my time where I'm not allowed any input. I've been know to just completely avoid conversations with repeat offenders.

I'm sometimes the one doing the interrupting; and that is usually because if I do not say something when it comes to mind it will vanish. My mind seems to not stay on one thought for very long unless there is a purpose for it. But, yes, if I'm interrupted I'm not likely to repeat the thought process.
